Ranald is a great name. I'd forgotten about it. Much better than Ronald, for some reason.

I really like Rollo too!

Orphlids · 11/06/2021 05:03

We have a Magnus. If DC3 had been a boy, we were considering Rollo.

sunkisses100 · 11/06/2021 01:06

Ludovic is Scottish/Italian in origin & means famous warrior.

UhtredRagnarson · 11/06/2021 00:42

@silkpillowcases

Uhtred?

Please don't do Malcolm

You called? Grin

@Vikingintraining

I want to have a child now, just to name him or her THUNDER BEAR! What a fabulous name.

I wish my husband had let me have a magnus or a Duncan. If my 3rd had been a boy she would have been Odin.

Ming pronounced as in the vase, followed by iss - you don't pronounce the g. I agree most people (outside Scotland, possibly inside too these days) would pronounce it Men-zis. I am not a patient person and that would drive me nuts.

Mingus I think is the closest pronunciation. Glad people got what I meant Grin

Wakeupin2022 · 10/06/2021 17:54

Flaunch

Meingus is possibly the closest phonetic spelling I can get.

Although I used to call the newsagent Men- zies

Even though I knew people with the surname Menzies (pronounced correctly)

RedLemon · 10/06/2021 17:44

Hamish or Fergus. Some great suggestions on here!

Flaunch · 10/06/2021 17:39

How should it be pronounced?

GodolphinHorne · 10/06/2021 16:31

@Yutes

Menzies
But only if you pronounce it properly, and lots of people won’t!
Yutes · 10/06/2021 15:31

Menzies

Imgettingdesparatehere · 10/06/2021 13:46

I was going to suggest Somerled but I see others have beaten me to it. I think Finn & Struan are good (one of my son's is a Struan so I may be biased). Both are easily pronounced & spelled. The same can not because for Ruaridh. I have 3 boys all with Scottish names . Duncan is also a great name & is I think one that wasn't as popular in the resurgence of Scottish names.

Flaunch · 10/06/2021 13:46

There are some fabulous names on This thread!

AlfonsoTheMango · 10/06/2021 13:40

What great names. If I ever get another cat, I am definitely naming him Thunder Bear.
