A friend recently named her baby with the initials LSD, and is now very upset about the connotations after her BIL pointed it out. I don’t think I’d be fussed about LSD, but I would have noticed it, and the fact that she didn’t makes me wonder if there’s anything I’m missing for my daughter’s proposed name, and if anyone else wanted to put their initials up for mumsnet to check for them!

Mine are IAD, due in three weeks so time to change if needed but I can’t think of anything!

LSD oh dear.
I know a DOG.

Ds Is - AID.
DD is AMD ( was going to be MAD, My MIL pointed that out but we changed it due to family tradition in end anyway)

IAD is the airport code for Washington Dulles airport, but unless you are or were in the business it wouldn’t register.

I'm sure any Adrian Mole fans on here will remember Pandora Louise Elizabeth Braithwaite.

I'm old so I remember when LSD meant pounds, shillings and pence.

My husband is a CAD.

I don't think it's a massive issue provided it doesn't spell something very crude or obviously offensive.

DH and I joke about trying to fit MEOW in if the baby I'm expecting is a girl!

My mum one went out with a PIG and I know someone who has given their child the initials EGG

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/06/2021 22:42

when pronounced IAD could sound like
IED - improvised explosive device

I don't think it's gonna be a massive issue though🤣

Most people/kids don't know most people's middle names....

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/06/2021 22:37

Unless the initials look like a "rude " body part, even if misspelt (TIT, ASS, DIK etc) or something to do with bodily functions or sex (STI, IBS, FUK etc) - I don't think most people/children would tease or even mention it. I doubt your friends child's initials will cause them any problems and IAD seems fine to me.

I reckon if it passes a quick Google search test it's probably too obscure to worry about.
