Can we have a ‘check my baby initials’ thread?

A friend recently named her baby with the initials LSD, and is now very upset about the connotations after her BIL pointed it out. I don’t think I’d be fussed about LSD, but I would have noticed it, and the fact that she didn’t makes me wonder if there’s anything I’m missing for my daughter’s proposed name, and if anyone else wanted to put their initials up for mumsnet to check for them!

Mine are IAD, due in three weeks so time to change if needed but I can’t think of anything!

I used to have the initials SLA which I scratched into my plastic school maths set. Guess what letter some 'kind person' added...

Deux · 16/06/2021 09:19

My DD’s is FAB which I hadn’t noticed till FIL pointed it out. Love it.

GiantToadstool · 16/06/2021 08:33

Op cant see any problem with IAD!
I wouldnt use LSD myself... but certainly at primary noone should even know.

GiantToadstool · 16/06/2021 08:30

But others on this thread have showed you it did for them?

As I said depends if school/work uses intials (many wont and it wont be a problem) . At one of my jobs people were known by 3 letters and it would have been noticed. However others it would be first and last intiial so noone would know.

At school I went to it was initial surname. So it was considered more funny (but not nasty) when A.Bush was called out "anyone seen a bush?.""

So you can't always predict these things. I did make sure all our initals were "ok" though. As above ARSE or SHT would be unfortunate. Or BO...

@GiantToadstool

It really can matter. It just depends if your child's school uses initials or work does, and what the abvreviation is.
I work in schools and PRUs and it has literally never come up. Even amongst the silliest kids!
ladygindiva · 16/06/2021 08:25

My dad's a heavy drinker and his initials are AA

MoonCatcher · 16/06/2021 08:24

I changed the names I loved for my daughter to avoid the initials RIP

I am NED and they called me Neddy at school (as in a donkey). I didn't mind at all, donkeys are lovely. They also called me shrimp bcause I was very small and I didn't mind that either (although I was made self-conscious by the teacher calling the other kids out on it and being denigratory to shrimps!).

miltonj · 16/06/2021 08:21

It really, really doesn't matter.

MindyStClaire · 16/06/2021 08:18

Names changed, but our nephew is Ben Edward Norris, so his initials spell his name which is quite cool.

helpmewiththispleez · 16/06/2021 06:50

A relative is BO you need to check with and without middle names 😂

My DH is HO but I don't think that matters for a boy/ man?

FleetwoodRaincoat · 16/06/2021 06:47

A girl at school had the initials SHT and was known as Shitty Grin

Seeleyboo · 16/06/2021 06:46

My oldest boy is HMS. Not as bad as his sisters I guess.

Seeleyboo · 16/06/2021 06:44

My daugher is ASS. I didn't see that coming until it was too late. She is 22 now. Poor girl, muma is sorry.

ForkedIt · 16/06/2021 06:33

My mum used to know someone who’s initials were ART. She actually went by the ‘R’ of her middle name but her parents didn’t want her initials to be RAT.

JaJaNein · 16/06/2021 06:30

I’ve been concerned about initials- realised would spell EEL.
Is EAL any better?

elp30 · 16/06/2021 02:33

My initials were previously LSD (first marriage) and people actually called me, LSD in the office and not my first name. People had a giggle but never forgot it.

It will be okay @Ginevere

BluePeterVag · 16/06/2021 01:45

There is a FFS in DS2’s class. Grin

Stilltalkstotrees · 13/06/2021 21:06

My DD is IBS Blush We had no idea what this stood for when we named her. She doesn't mind. DS is NHS and he's quite fond of his initials.

Findahouse21 · 13/06/2021 20:55

I know an STD

brizzlewizzle · 13/06/2021 20:54

IAD is the airport code for Washington DC - not that it matters though!

toto23 · 12/06/2021 20:32

My initials were fine until I got married .

Now they spell out something unfortunate 🤦‍♀️

But my parents wouldn't have thought about that .

PennyDreadful66 · 12/06/2021 20:22

Mine would have been LARA but that's a girls name so thought ds would be teased so now it's LRAA, yours seems fine

Ilikecheeseontoast · 12/06/2021 20:22

My daughter was going to be BJ something until we realised!
