Camilla - will people shorten it?

Thinking of the name Camilla. Is it likely to be shortened? Or will people assume to use the full name?

I only know one - from East Europe. Always called by her full name. It’s a great name. I rather like Cam as a nickname. Much less keen on Millie.

dannydyerismydad · 10/06/2021 11:07

I think it's a great name. Camilla is so grown up, Mila is cool, Milly is joyful and playful. A really adaptable name to suit different stages of life.

SamMil · 10/06/2021 11:04

I know one - she is Camilla but people who know her well often call her Milly.

Ughmaybenot · 10/06/2021 10:54

I actually only know two Camillas. One is a Millie and I didn’t even realise she was called Camilla until I happened to see her driving licence, and the other is Cam.
All names have the potential to be shortened, some more so than others but I think that there’s a strong possibility Camilla will be shortened, one way or another.

Marcipex · 10/06/2021 10:50

Camel is brilliant
But sadly Milla is probably going to be what she is actually called

JustKeep · 10/06/2021 10:49

I know 3. One is always Camilla, one is Milly, one is Cams.

Chilldonaldchill · 10/06/2021 10:27

All the Camilla I have ever met have been full name by most people but occasionally Milla by friends/family.

helpmeeee11 · 10/06/2021 09:41

I know a Camilla who is 100% Camilla with no nicknames

Scarby9 · 09/06/2021 20:40

I know a Milla who has always been called that, but has Camilla on her birth certificate.

EverNapping · 09/06/2021 20:39

bridgetreilly · 09/06/2021 11:13

More likely that she will shorten it herself. I know Millas, Millys and Cams.

Elbels · 09/06/2021 11:09

It's always weird to see your name come up and to see your nickname described as wet Grin

As an adult I really like my name but I've been Milly / Mills for so long that it doesn't resonate as my identity at all.

I wish I'd gone with milla though, that's much cooler!

TatianaBis · 09/06/2021 10:34

I know 2. One Milly one Cam.

midsomermurderess · 09/06/2021 10:21

I have known a Mills.

PeterPipersPepper · 09/06/2021 09:38

Thanks everyone. A lot of Millie/Mills/Milla answers so I’m glad I asked.

I don’t mind nicknames I just like to know what I’m in for!

My other daughters name has one obvious nickname and so I felt like I was consciously choosing that along with the longer name.

I don't think people in general will shorten it but it will develop amongst her friends/family

Watercoloursky · 09/06/2021 08:56

I was at uni with a Camilla (just over a decade ago), we called her Milla/Mills.

ILoveShula · 09/06/2021 08:52

Yes. Cam, Cami, Camel (yes really), Milly

Denimdenmin · 09/06/2021 08:34

@Collywibbles

My friend has a wee one called Camilla - she is known as Milla.
Ooh I like Milla.
Tumbledried · 09/06/2021 08:05

I know 2.
One is a cam, the other is a miller/milla

elizabethdraper · 09/06/2021 08:03

I know two, both known as Millie. Never heard anyone say Cammy to them?
