I love Sian but hear it’s old lady in Wales?

Still like Siriol but people don’t seem keen. Others being considered

Rhedyn
Cadi
Nia
Heulwen
Manon

Ela will be middle name probably though we considered Medi

@gonnabeok

I love Sian (pronouned Sharn) it's not an old lady's name. Some of the trendy names now I consider to be old ladies names like Pearl, Olive and Mabel.
It’s really not pronounced Sharn.
Candyapple49 · 06/06/2021 21:58

I teach 2 Sians under the age of 14 . I think it is a lovely name .

Seesawmummadaw · 06/06/2021 21:56

Sian is the name of one of the coolest people that I’ve ever met. She’s really artistic and bohemian. She’s quiet and reflective. Very quirky.

BlueDucky · 06/06/2021 21:54

Love it

FindingMeno · 06/06/2021 21:54

My favourite is Manon. So so beautiful!
Sian is very pretty though so you shouldn't hesitate if you love it.

LewishamMum · 06/06/2021 21:51

I love it, seriously thinking of giving it to my next.
If you're daughter does ever live outside of Wales, then Sian is the only one that (in England at least) people will often know about.

Duchess379 · 06/06/2021 21:29

What about Niamh?

gonnabeok · 06/06/2021 21:29

Sian is okay, but I must admit I don't know any under 40 (I'm in Wales).

Nia is lovely - simple, elegant and easy for non-welsh speakers too (if that matters). Cadi is nice but may get "kay-dee" instead (outside of Wales). Even though it is Welsh too, Manon seems very French to me! Not keen on the others, sorry.

I prefer Medi over Ela but both are nice.

MerylSqueak · 06/06/2021 21:10

I love Manon but know lots under 20.
I like Cadi and Sian. Don't know any under 20.
Can't throw a stick around here without hitting a Seren.

I work in Secondary School in mid Wales if that makes a difference.

partyatthepalace · 06/06/2021 21:08

No it’s a nice classic name.

I love Manon though !

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2021 21:08

Sian sounds lovely to me, but I'm not Welsh and am not familiar with what names are fashionable.

KirstenBlest · 06/06/2021 21:06

Siân - a bit middle aged. Used to much by non Welsh speakers for my liking
Siriol - nice, not overused. Might not suit a miserable child
Rhedyn - awful
Cadi - fine
Nia - same as for Siân
Heulwen - no, nice meaning but grannyish
Manon - too popular

Ela - not keen
Medi - only for a September birth

Frazzled2207 · 06/06/2021 20:25

I’d say a bit dated as I know many in 30s and 40s but no old ladies. I think Heulwen could def be an old lady.
Sian is nice but you need a little hat really. Siân.
Don’t like Siriol at all! Or Rhedyn.
Like Nia and Manon too. Cadi quite “trendy” atm.

3CCC · 06/06/2021 20:21

I'm never quite saw how to pronounce it

It's also one of those I know a couple of absolute cows called ... names

So it's a no from me I'm afraid

Spied · 06/06/2021 20:19

Lovely name.
Definitely not old lady-esque.

peachykeenjellybean1981 · 06/06/2021 20:18

It's my name! I'm late 30's but know a few Sian's ranging from 20 to 50.

Leonardsgirl · 06/06/2021 20:11

It's lovely.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/06/2021 20:10

I don't think it's an old lady name at all, or even middle aged. I don't think I know any little ones, except for one Siani (Shanny) who may really be a Sian.

Thesearmsofmine · 06/06/2021 20:04

It’s also my middle name. I wouldn’t say it is an old lady name but I probably wouldn’t use it, it feels like there are a fair few of them in their 20’s/30’s.

I love Nia, one of my favourite names.

Cbeebiesrehab · 06/06/2021 20:01

Know a lot of Sians around my age (mid 30s) don’t like it and don’t like the way it is said outside of Wales really.

Stevearnottsbeard · 06/06/2021 19:56

It's my middle name, I don't class myself as an old lady!!!! 😂 😂 😂 I love it

ImInStealthMode · 06/06/2021 19:16

I only know one Sian and she's in her early 20s. It's a pretty name.

lottiegarbanzo · 06/06/2021 19:13

I really like Manon.

Sian sounds middle-aged rather than old, to my English ear. It's in the Debbie, Sandra, Mel and Michelle bracket.

17caterpillars1mouse · 06/06/2021 19:13

I like Sian. I've only ever met 3, nonee of them old ladies (one is mid 30s and the other two would be around 20 and 18ish). Oh actually I worked with another Sian but she pronounced it si-ann. Again around 20/21
