Harry and Megan have announced the birth of their little girl. Thoughts on the name?

Congratulations to themFlowers

I think they would of asked permission to use the name, but why not just use Lili instead? I do like the names, congratulations!

Justa47 · 07/06/2021 18:57

@BabyBabyOh

Lovely name with great history but sick of hearing about them.

They stopped being active royals so I wish they were not in this news.

We should ignore them as was their wish.

Sylvan92 · 07/06/2021 18:53

TM talks to the press and he’s not to be forgiven but those two give THAT interview and they expect to be cherished members of the family?!

PresentingPercy · 07/06/2021 18:50

Where is the honouring of the black side of her family in these names? “Whitewashed” out, I think, in their need to seek attention. As a black women she should show pride in her heritage instead of avoiding it.

Bibidy · 07/06/2021 18:42

Of course they are still family and always will be.

But given they haven't had a good word to say about Harry's family for quite a while now, it's a bit odd and false to turn around and name their child after the head of that family. It's like if the baby had been a boy and they'd named it Thomas after Meghan's dad.

So H&M announce they will use the Queen's family nickname and name their dc after the head of the "racist" institution. Naming their dc after the ultimate privileged (in the eyes of their woke fans) white woman. Sounds like another bad joke, but no.

That’s the really strange aspect, to me. Not only has the girl not had a strong Afro-American heroine’s name like Maya, Toni, Nina etc... she has NOTHING from her maternal side at all. It’s entirely a paternal-side, royalty-drenched name.

antsy · 07/06/2021 18:16

@Marmaladeagain you are always part of a family even if you never speak to them again.
If William and Harry never speak again, they are still brothers. You can't change that.

friendlycat · 07/06/2021 18:16

The thing is that if they had simply decided on the name Lily Diana they would have been congratulated and life would move on swiftly as it does.

But no they have to go one step further and name their daughter with the very personal nickname given to the Queen from those closest to her. Even without all the drama of Oprah etc, etc, I would think this inappropriate. But given all the drama they have created once again it just smacks of creating more drama and attention. They are just completely tone deaf.

Sadly these two just bring on all the negative comments upon themselves and it all could have been so different.

Marmaladeagain · 07/06/2021 18:15

Hey antsy - you might want to tell Meghan's family that - they're part of Meghan's family and can't change that. Yes you can change it.

If you behave so that people no longer trust you, it changes.

It has changed. Relationships are a two way street. Meghan's family were banished it is rather hypocritical to sell stories about Harry's family and expect to be met with open arms. Surely, in M's book - it would be natural for the RF to now never, ever speak to them again. Except they know the RF are not in a position to defend themselves. Nice and brave behaviour.

antsy · 07/06/2021 18:14

Oops! Of course, she is.

RickiTarr · 07/06/2021 18:13

The Queen is Lilibet's grandmother.

GREAT grandmother.

antsy · 07/06/2021 18:12

@Marmaladeagain but they are part of the Royal Family. Nothing can change that. Just as I am always part of the extended antsy family even if I never spoke to them again.
The Queen is Lilibet's grandmother. William is her Uncle.

RickiTarr · 07/06/2021 18:12

@antsy

Yes she meant a small unofficial ceremony. All those claiming it was a wedding rehearsal are obviously talking nonsense. Wedding rehearsals involve others such as bridesmaids and take place in the cathedral itself. I have taken part of wedding rehearsals in a cathedral. It was about where everyone stood and walked.
TBF, you don’t have the official franchise to interpret her remarks and tell us what “she meant”. It might seem obvious by process of deduction, but is she is going to say inaccurate things, everyone is going to interpret it differently, according to their grasp of what is possible.

H & M do both seem to have this impressionistic approach to verbal communication that leads to misunderstandings.

The Independent has a column running that makes the point that calling the baby Lilibet Diana pretty much guarantees the child will attract more scrutiny, attention and publicity, not less.

Absolutely, particularly Lilibet as I think people were already expecting the name Diana to be in there somewhere.

If they’d announced her name was Lily Diana it would barely have made a ripple in the news.

Horehound · 07/06/2021 17:58

I assumed Meghan meant they had a small unofficial ceremony before the big spectacle. Fair enough. In their eyes that was their wedding rather than the one for the public. It's hardly a big deal

PresentingPercy · 07/06/2021 17:54

I used the secret marriage as an example of Meghan not telling the truth. It’s exactly that and it’s not nonsense. If you say something to Oprah, at least be truthful. Or preferably shut up.

PresentingPercy · 07/06/2021 17:52

@LynetteScavo
Meghan said the Archbishop of Canterbury married them in a private ceremony before the big one! He then had to say that wasn’t a marriage. It’s been well publicised.

TatianaBis · 07/06/2021 17:51

Not the 'secret marriage' nonsense again.

Sylvan92 · 07/06/2021 17:41

I don’t understand the comparisons between Caroline Flack and H & M. I believe Caroline was already struggling and the thought of the publicity of the trial was just too much for her. The issue with her case IMHO is 1)should have faced charges in the first place and 2) should those accused be allowed to remain anonymous until found guilty. It’s very different to H & M who keep popping up to share something. They don’t want privacy, they want to be in the public eye on their terms.

RickiTarr · 07/06/2021 17:32

@LynetteScavo

Meghan has had her long interview and lied about a secret marriage

So when did they officially get married? Before the day we all saw or not? Confused

In the big ceremony at Windsor (that some of us successfully avoided).

There was no secret marriage.

chaosrabbitland · 07/06/2021 17:28

@PresentingPercy

Millions of people have not been happy about their public way Harry has talked about his family in a negative way and in particular parenting skills. Meghan has had her long interview and lied about a secret marriage and several other things. The are, nonetheless, still part of the RF and are very much putting themselves in the public domain whilst saying they want privacy. No doubt there wont be pictures of the baby and I’d be more than happy, personally, if they shut up and disappeared from public view instead of criticising and lecturing. It’s a childish name used by a childish couple calculating how to get attention. And it worked.
i agree also , its strange , like any attention no matter if its negative is better than none , they are like two children who will behave badly to get noticed by an inattentive parent even if that behaviour lands them in trouble and had the opposite long term effect of what the child actually wanted
