I really don't understand why a private nickname which was only spoken by the queen's father, sister and husband was used. I think Elizabeth or Lili would have been a better choice. Happy for Harry that he could honour Diana. A bit sad for Doria she didn't receive a look in for the name.

The name is not going down well in Australia, interesting read which I think summarises the feel down here:

"Is it not hilarious that the couple who for months has publicly excoriated the British royal family has named their daughter Lilibet Diana after two of its most famous women?...Yet in naming their daughter after the reigning monarch and the family’s beautiful doomed princess, Harry and Meghan continue to milk the institution they claimed almost destroyed them.

So maybe their daughter’s name is hypocrisy rather than hilarity."

Ahhh.... good old DailyFail and Express! So predictable!

Percy You are sounding very bossy about what names you are expecting a couple you don't know ... to use. They can call their baby what they like. It's not your choice. It's theirs.

Roussette · 08/06/2021 09:20

Great thread by the way. Much better than the one on the Royal Family board from 2 days ago

Yes, because it has been allowed to turn into a vitriolic hate fest. There's some awful things being said on here about a mother who has just had a baby.
Vile.

PresentingPercy · 08/06/2021 09:19

And from an era Meghan doesn’t like and a family Harry isn’t keen on either! Doria has been with Archie a lot. She must mean a lot to them. What about her family names? Yes, I agree. A lost opportunity to express her heritage and honour her mother’s family.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/06/2021 09:10

@PresentingPercy She’s really missed an opportunity here hasn’t she? I’m so disappointed with them I thought they were going to be great for the royal family, really progressive and modern.
Why pick such a babyish, foppy name which belongs to the ultimate privileged white woman?

It's a nice name. I personally prefer Elizabeth or Lily.

But Harry and Meghan using it is.... interesting.

Not necessarily.

DS1 & 2 have their middle names from my FIL and my DM, because we didn't like my DF's name (and he only had one name, didn't have a middle name!). Even my DF was happy with that - as we did run it past him - and he said he didn't really like his own name, and didn't think it would be a good choice.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2021 08:45

Exactly this. Very odd to have not used something from Meghan's side too.

No, not really.

littlepattilou · 08/06/2021 08:39

@user1477391263

LOL at the people saying "Other people are called Lilibet too, you know?" and "They're just using Gramma's name---what could be nicer?"

Lilibet is a very, very unusual name--of course they are not using it by blind coincidence. And, honestly, it truly is weird to use Grandma's name for a new baby when you, the parents, have just had a big public row with that side of the family.

Tone deaf, poorly advised.

I agree.

Classic, attention-seeking behaviour from this couple.

@custardbear

littlepattilou Perfect!

@Violetlavenders

Well said Pattilou

Thank you Blush

Great thread by the way. Much better than the one on the Royal Family board from 2 days ago. That got so toxic and nasty that I left after 4 or 5 posts. The personal attacks against me and a couple of other posters (from 3 or 4 of the Harry and Meghan obsessives,) was actually disturbing.

This one is much more balanced, with most Harry and Meghan fans being miffed and defensive, but not issuing personal attacks.

Really? Since when? First I've heard of that. Parents choose names they want from one, both or no sides of the family.

Maybe she’s not as black as she says she is because her family has been forgotten about when it suits her

What in god's name does that mean? How can someone be 'not as black as they say they are'?

And what do you know about her family relationships... unless of course you have inside information. Which you don't.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2021 08:05

So glad none put my DC name choice's under the microscope like this 😂 I would have failed miserably.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2021 08:03

Percy - that's nonsense. And total speculation unless they've been on the phone to you.

I cant shake the feeling they have used both there children's names to make a point Harry has always had the press claiming he was James Hewitts son not Charles so they give his son the middle name Harrison literally means harrys son now this one we love granny really 💙 it just feels calculated

Violetlavenders · 08/06/2021 06:53

It's the fact that they used the Queen's pet name - Lilibet - when they show such disdain towards the Royal family, and everything it represents, and wanted to distance themselves from it. (Well, until it suits them to be part of it).

Well said.

JewelGarden · 08/06/2021 03:59

I can't believe I used to think Harry was cool Blush

Phantom1 · 08/06/2021 03:42

Despite the fact that they have trashed their nearest and dearest, it all smacks of clinging on to their royal connection which is all they have. When the Queen (and she has been a long-serving, faultless and fabulous Queen) is no longer with us, they will have their own little Lilibet to monetise.

Kerching.
