Lilibet Diana — what do we think?

I can't quite believe these two. They've put the Queen through so much stress and now they're using her childhood nickname for their kid. Do they think that will help her to forgive them while they continue to publicly bash the family? Pathetic.

Taking someone's pet name is a shit thing to do, but they are shit people, so it's to be expected.

I much prefer Lily to Lilibet. Lilibet sounds like a brand of tampons, but not my child, so I don't really care.

I do hope the Queen isn't upset though. She's had enough to deal with lately, but I doubt she will ever meet the child anyway.

Whenever posters have asked about Lilibet on here prior to this, the name hasn't gone down well. I personally don't like it. But Lily and Betty are cute nicknames.

I love the name Diana with or without it's obvious meaning. Lilibet is strange to me. It's a personal nickname of the Queen and it strikes me as odd to use it. I would have either used Elizabeth or Elspeth (or something similar) as a tribute. Finally, I just don't think it rolls of the tongue nicely/easily. Maybe it's something to do with the number of syllables in each or the consonant at the end of Lilibet and start of Diana being so similar?
Overall I don't hate it but don't love it.

Given the rather public falling-out, it's just a bit too much, frankly. Perhaps it was run by the queen (or then again, perhaps not----they are a bit of an impulsive pair), but it seems weird even to ask in the first place. Don't they have any one advising them?

Lily Diana would have been fine.

I think a formal first name is more appropriate, particularly because royalty have more formality as a rule. Little girls grow up and need a business card name at some point. I also dislike their use of the Queen's nickname, it would have been better to call her Elizabeth with that as a nickname or Lily.

My daughter is named after my Grandmother, because my Nan was my life and my hero and I loved her so much and knowing I was having a girl and Nan was in her 80's. Yes, let the name live on. They had 8 super years together.

But yes, it seems stupid to claim what was a nickname when you've trashed the person it belonged to.

Predictable. Not keen on Lilibet as a name, it sounds more like a new online betting company than a person's name, but Diana was always going to be one of the names chosen. Wish I'd had a lilibet on this, I could have won a few quid.

Diana is a lovely name . Lilibet not as keen on that. But I think it is really lovely that they are trying to build bridges and have given their little girl the same name as her cousin.

After all the negative publicity they've caused and the way in which they spoke about the royal family of late, I think is massively disrespectful and they've got quite a cheek actually.

I agree. If they want her to be known as Lili why didn't they just call her that.

I do think it’s a bit weird to move completely away from any sort of royal names with Archie Harrison, when they were still in the royal family, and now to make such a direct (and intimate) association with Lilibet when they are out (and have publicly stated how hurt they feel by the royal family/system, which is of course headed by the Queen). The Diana thing is totally understandable though.

Not a huge fan- it's a nickname, not a name. Also don't understand honouring a family you detest as institutional bullies and racists, but glad mum and baby are healthy. Hopefully they can change therapists and all move on.

Lilly or Elizabeth fine and also Diana. But it just feels so off to use the recognised nickname of The Queen which really is quite personal to her within the family. Nicknames are different. They could have selected another name so easily so why?

They both seem so out of step now with the royal family and have made much about distancing themselves etc for their own mental health that why did they have to pick a personal nickname of the monarch when plain Lilly would have been just fine.

It does give the impression that they're trying desperately hard to appeal to the readership of the Mail and the Sun by appealing to pro-Queen sentiments and their constant obsession with Diana.
