@dorangme

I agree with this. I don't think it's appropriate, someone mentioned manipulative, inthink it's in bad taste after all they've done to try and destroy the reputation of family members, they shouldn't have picked such a sentimental name belonging to the queen.

Destroy the reputation? Some family members seem quite capable of doing this themselves.

Indeed they are, but H&M have literally attached them for months on end, made money out of the Royal family and acted like entitled brats in front of the world, dragging the RF downwards - the cynic in me, which often turns out to be right, thinks it's a money making publicity making step, trying to wheedle their way back into favour again - I'm appalled by their inability to reflect on themselves or their behaviour
coffeerose · 07/06/2021 07:46

Attention seeking and a PR tool.

custardbear · 07/06/2021 07:44

@Nomorepies

I think considering the appalling way they have criticised the Queen and everything her life has been about, its a blatant attempt to maintain that money-making connection whilst sticking the knife in the back.

I just find them both gross. She's an attention seeking narc and he's too stupid to see what she has planned for them.

Couldn't have put it better myself
Highfivemum · 07/06/2021 07:44

Unless they asked the Queen prior I think it is disrespectful. This was a nickname given by the Queens husband to her and he has only just died. A unique little nickname between a married couple not one to be used by others so close after his death. Lili is fine or evening Elizabeth but not Lilibet. To broadcast and have outbursts while the Queens husband was dying to me sums the couple up. Now using this name shows them as not having any idea on others feelings. My DH has a nickname for me. If he had recently died it would hurt me so much to hear the affectionate name being used. So a huge dislike from me.

SnottyLottie · 07/06/2021 07:40

I really don’t like Lilibet. It’a very old ladyish and clunky sounding. A bit too fuddy-duddy for my liking. To me it also sounds slightly made up (although I am aware it is a real name).

It’s also a little too on the nose for sucking up to the Queen (please note I don’t actually think this but this is how it comes across.) I know it’s traditional for royals to use Elizabeth as a middle name for daughters but Elizabeth kind of works in that it is a generic, universal name. Lilibet is a little too personal and too unusual to translate into direct honouring and just sounds like they’re just fawning after the Queen.

I also think that if they intend to call her Lili they should have just called her Lili/Lily. It works better with Archie and they said that they thought Archibald sounded ridiculous so decided to use Archie instead. I feel that this applies to Lilibet still.

I would have much preferred Lily/Betty/Eliza as a way to honour the Queen personally but obviously that’s not my choice 😆

Diana is nice enough as a name and is very a sweet but obvious choice. I think we would have been outraged if they hadn’t have used it! Let’s be thankful they didn’t use Diana’s childhood nickname or else we would have a Lilibet Duchess 😆

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 07/06/2021 07:30

I think it’s too similar to Lilets

I also think that taking the very obvious nickname of the queen (perhaps without asking?) - someone you’ve slagged off publicly - is another step too far.

Seems like a boundary issue.

They probably won’t even take the child to see the queen!

YanTanTethera123 · 07/06/2021 07:19

@LolaSmiles

Lili is nice, but I'd prefer Lily.

I find Lilibet as a given name to be a bit incongruous with a couple who've been airing their family gripes to anyone who'll listen, accused one family of being racist, and made a public departure from a family they've deemed harmful.

The cynic is me wonders if it's all about keeping the royal links as without that they're just a pair of celebrities who want a platform to talk about themselves and lecture the rest of us.

I agree. I think there’s an element of manipulation in it too.
kiksta · 07/06/2021 07:11

🥴 was my exact reaction

Berniesknittedmittens · 07/06/2021 07:08

I agree with Exhausted Flamingo and custard bear. It's utterly bizarre, if one of my family members caused me so much pain I certainly wouldn't have called my child after them!
I also think it's weird to use the same/similar names as your cousin, I know I am in the minority with this though.

Violetlavenders · 07/06/2021 07:07

if it had just been lily or lili it would have been fine , but as someone else had said its a manipulative choice by using lilibet , and i think its cheeky

I agree. I find it disrespectful to use the Queen's childhood nickname.

Peachbubble · 07/06/2021 07:04

If I saw this as a birth announcement from any couple, I'd think it was a poor choice for a first name. Lily Diana is lovely or Elizabeth Diana. I don't like Lili, spelt this way as it looks like Lil.

dorangme · 07/06/2021 07:03

If you're gonna line your pockets slagging me off on prime time TV, don't think calling your kid after me is going to make me think any better of you.

When did they slag the Queen off?

dorangme · 07/06/2021 07:00

chaosrabbitland · 07/06/2021 06:44

if it had just been lily or lili it would have been fine , but as someone else had said its a manipulative choice by using lilibet , and i think its cheeky as fuck . i realise no one owns a name per say , but that was the queens nickname / petname i dont think after the shit and sheer stress they both have caused her and harry continues to cause her they have any business trying to endear themselves to her by calling their kid by her childhood nickname , i very much doubt they asked her either , if love to be a fly on the wall to know what the royals actually think about this dubious choice of name

SpindleWhorl · 07/06/2021 06:36

They might as well have called her Regina.

Or why not Regina Cordibus-Vestris.

Strange to use a pet name, it’s not great for a small child but sounds awful on a grown woman. I’m sure a lot of thought was used to come up with that.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 07/06/2021 06:33

Shouldn't it be Lilibet Diana Sussex Royal

Onlinedilema · 07/06/2021 06:27

Lilibet.

Onlinedilema · 07/06/2021 06:26

I think it's a great name. Lilibut is my dds nickname. I love it.

Egghead68 · 07/06/2021 06:21

I think Meghan’s mother might feel left out. They could have added her name too.

custardbear · 07/06/2021 06:19

@Ragoo

After all the negative publicity they've caused and the way in which they spoke about the royal family of late, I think is massively disrespectful and they've got quite a cheek actually.

It would have been nice to have had something to mark Meghans mum too - stinks of manipulation to me
ExhaustedFlamingo · 07/06/2021 06:12

It's really bizarre. All their talk of "genetic pain" and their accusations levelled at the royal family, specifically the parenting - which includes the queen - and then they use the queen's childhood nickname for their child? It's nonsensical, and just a bit of a piss take really.

The thing I'm surprised about is nothing to include Doria. She seems to have done a lot for Meghan, traipsing round the world to support her - to include two names for Harry's side of the family and none for Meghan's seems incredibly dismissive.

Maybe Doria doesn't care. Who knows? But if you're asking for opinions, there's nothing about this name which makes sense.

GreenWheat · 07/06/2021 06:04

Cute for a toddler, stupid name for a grown woman. Don't know why they are using such a personal name in the very family they are trying to distance themselves from though. Almost as if they are massive attention seekers....

Nitpickpicnic · 07/06/2021 05:53

I dunno. I’ve never been a fan of naming a kid with a nickname- it always sounds to me as if the parents aren’t confident the kid will be given an endearment by their mates, like being worried they won’t be loved or liked enough.

And using the Queen’s nickname seems a bit disrespectful, if anything. It’s not like M or H ever got to use it in person with the Queen, it was for the Queen’s older relatives and sibling/cousins to use, surely?
