Harry and Megan have announced the birth of their little girl. Thoughts on the name?

Congratulations to themFlowers

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@Egghead68

I think Meghan’s mother might feel left out. They could have added her name too.
Do you think Kate Middleton's dad feels left out of his grandson's names? Does it matter. None of my kids are named after me or DH's parents and they still love them unconditionally.
MoChridhe · 07/06/2021 11:00

@AvocadoPlant

Given Meghan makes so much of her feminist credentials then why not honour the strong women that are actually in her in her life - Oprah and Doria.
The Queen is the strongest woman in her life. So she used her name.
SallySycamore · 07/06/2021 10:44

To me, it doesn't really feel like she has her own name. I know the Royals tend to use the same pool of names, but I don't think there's usually quite such a strong association with another person for all of the names.

I think I'd have just used Lili for her first name. People would still make the connection, but she would have a name that was her own.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 07/06/2021 10:27

What girls' name would not be quite a departure from Archie? Archiella? Archiette?

No. You’re missing my point. Sophie, Amelia, Isla, Olivia, one of the Top 10 type names would be what I see as the girls’ name equivalent to Archie.

SpindleWhorl · 07/06/2021 10:25

Maybe they're trolling the Queen.

Bibidy · 07/06/2021 10:13

@MrsElijahMikaelson1

I don’t love it, but that’s ok as it’s not my baby. If they have done it to build bridges then I actually think that’s great.
I feel the opposite tbh...I can't imagine members of my family doing what Harry and Meghan have done this year and then thinking that naming their child after me was a tribute.

It seems like a very hollow gesture given the way they have spoken about the royal family and accusations they have made about how uncaring everyone is etc etc.

dottiedodah · 07/06/2021 10:09

I am pleased for them that they have a new baby girl .However the name just sounds like they are trying a bit too hard after their "interview" and recent tactless remarks,trying to curry favour with the Queen .

Bibidy · 07/06/2021 10:07

I think it's a sweet name but also think it's a bit cringe and rude to use a private nickname as a public tribute, certainly while that person is still alive. And particularly considering their comments about his family over the past year.

It feels like a superficial gesture to try and show solidarity with the family despite continuing to speak poorly about them.

WoollyHeadedMammoth · 07/06/2021 09:47

If the Sussexes ARE simply trying to suck up, as many have alleged, then I think it's a missed opportunity. Especially if this will be their last child. Especially if it turns out that the tabloids have been wrong all this time and The Queen - who is after all 95 - is not really a vampire or an intergalactic space lizard.

They really should plan for the future. Why stop at one Power Royal when you could honour two with "Lilibet Willibet", or the full trifecta with "Lilibet Willibet Camillabet"? Grin

annie335 · 07/06/2021 09:37

I'm actually embarrassed for them. They really are in a world of their own.

greenlynx · 07/06/2021 09:29

It sounds nice and cute for a small child but it’s got this nicknames childish feeling so doesn’t feel as a proper grown up name imo. However I don’t like names Lili, Diana or Archie so we obviously have different taste in names.
Hope they’ve asked the Queen’s permission to use this name as it’s personal and she’s still alive.

squishee · 07/06/2021 09:04

@JeanClaudeVanDammit

I never like nicknames as full names. It’s also quite a departure from Archie.

derxa · 07/06/2021 08:58

if love to be a fly on the wall to know what the royals actually think about this dubious choice of name Probably laughing their arses off

RolloTomassi · 07/06/2021 08:52

Diana is a perfect tribute, Lily is pretty. Lilibet is calculating and attention-seeking.

ufucoffee · 07/06/2021 08:47

It's just lovely. So pretty.

SpanishLady · 07/06/2021 08:42

Their child they can call her what they want.

I think it's a surprise to no one they used Diana and why.

I do understand why some people think it feels odd not in the context of family for family sake but in the context of how Harry has been critical of them.

Had he not brought the Queen into his comments about the way she brought up Charles and then Charles brought him up - I think this would make lots of sense as clearly before he that he made a point to not make any negative comments about the Queen.

Best part is they are well, baby safely delivered, the RF has congratulated them and it might all move on.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 07/06/2021 08:39

Velvetbee · 07/06/2021 08:36

Pretty

dollybird · 07/06/2021 08:35

I think it's ok, but prefer Lily or Elizabeth. Or maybe Lilian

Celandines · 07/06/2021 08:28

I think it's a good choice. They obviously aren't going for traditional royal names but that's ok

AvocadoPlant · 07/06/2021 08:20

lollipoprainbow · 07/06/2021 08:08

Prefer Elizabeth not sure about Lilibet or Lili to be honest.

dorangme · 07/06/2021 07:56

Indeed they are, but H&M have literally attached them for months on end, made money out of the Royal family and acted like entitled brats in front of the world, dragging the RF downwards - the cynic in me, which often turns out to be right, thinks it's a money making publicity making step, trying to wheedle their way back into favour again - I'm appalled by their inability to reflect on themselves or their behaviour

Perhaps this is all true however it doesn't make them any worse than other Royals.

custardbear · 07/06/2021 07:52

@coffeerose

Attention seeking and a PR tool.
Yep - hideous and greedy manipulators
