Hi what are your thoughts on Marina?

We also like Connie and Lara but Marina is front runner. What do you think?

My grandmother was Marina. She was Greek and quite exceptionally beautiful. I think it’s a lovely grown up name that also works for children and teenagers. I also quite like Marine, but if it were me I’d prefer to be called Marina I think.

My mum had a Morris Marina, I was so excited when my first boyfriend collected me on our first date in one, except his was a vinyl top. You don't see many of those cars around today.

I am a Marina Grin

Strokethefurrywall · 07/06/2021 16:39

I know a 7 year old Marina, she goes by Mina.

It’s a fab name!

Delphigirl · 07/06/2021 16:36

I have a 15 yo Marina so I love it. She is Marina to everyone but in the family ONLY she is Reenie or The Reen (or when we want to annoy her, Teenage Reenage as distinct from Teeny Weeny Reenie which she was for the first 10 years of her life and Pre-Teen Reen from 10-12 poor child!)

DeadButDelicious · 07/06/2021 16:34

I love it. My little pug is called Marina (sorry that's probably not what you wanted to hear) and we always sing the stingray song to her. Grin

Marina is a fabulous name. Elegant, unusual but not weird.

AlfonsoTheMango · 07/06/2021 16:28

Marina is a lovely name.

VenusClapTrap · 07/06/2021 16:15

I really like it. How about Marisol? It means sea and sun, which I think is delightful.

Haha - I’m not making it up that’s her name!
That's why I apologised first, It just read really funny after all the boat comments Grin (I think Harbor is a lovely name btw!)
@ColdJuicy I love the name Marina. It was on the list for DD who ended up as Harbor.
Grin sorry, that really tickled me!

@AngeloMysterioso No different than calling her Charlotte (my favourite potato).Grin

AngeloMysterioso · 06/06/2021 22:21

What about Maris?

Piper. Spuds.

AngeloMysterioso · 06/06/2021 22:21

@StillNoFuckingEyeDeer

I think of a place for boats or a mirena coil.
Me too I’m afraid. Which is a shame because it’s a lovely sounding name.

What about Maris?

campion · 06/06/2021 21:36

Classy and won't date. Also works well internationally.

Lara's a bit boring and Connie's in a separate category for me, which isn't a positive.

Moonface123 · 06/06/2021 21:31

I work with a lady.called Marina and have always thought what a lovely name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/06/2021 21:28

Marina is lovely - very elegant, Shakespearean and well used internationally (yet fairly uncommon in the UK). I also like that she can choose quite different feeling nn's for it too if she wants (Marnie, Mina, Mimi, maybe even Mai (May)).

I like Lara too though - similarly elegant, international and romantic feeling.

Connie is a very different style to me - retro nicknamey (like Annie, Edie etc).

tigerbreadandtea · 06/06/2021 21:24

A refreshing change from all the Avas, Evas, Olivias.
