I pronounce the tree to rhyme with rowing a boat.
I prefer the pronunciation like Rowan Williams and Atkinson. Like Ro-uhn.
The Rohans I know are pronounced Ro - Harn.

Chilldonaldchill · 07/06/2021 20:40

@Posieandpip

I can't believe anyone has pronounced 'Rowan' with a 'row' sound to rhyme with 'cow'... that's insane! 😂
I asked one of the parents once and they said it was the Scottish pronunciation for the female Rowan.

Ines

Just curious as to why you think that. To be honest I’m not too bothered about how their names sound together as they’re individual people, as long as it it’s too much of a mouthful as I will probably be saying them together a lot.

I think they are too similar with the een sound in the first syllable of each. Of course they are individual people but you are quite likely to be addressing both children quite frequently. I also think they might be difficult to distinguish when heard from a distance/less distinctly (eg calling one child from downstairs while both upstairs, in the playground where it is noisy, etc).

I know several Rowan's pronounced like that. Both female and Scottish. Rowan like the tree. How else is it pronounced? I know a male Rohan, do people pronounce it like that?

Ines Maya.

Ines, Maya and Nina are all names I'd put in a similar category (classy, international, timeless) do shocked to hear posters say Ines and Nina don't go well together. I think they're perfect! Also, Ines is very much a girl's name so pretty surprised to see posters saying it's boyish. It's lovely!

Rowan is nice but a bit too trendy and not as classy or international as the others.

Chilldonaldchill · 06/06/2021 23:17

I really like Ines and I think it sounds good with Nina.
I adore Maya though and personally would pick Nina and Maya as the first names.
Rowan is nice but the girls I have met with that name have pronounced it with row sound like argument instead of row like a boat and I think it would cause confusion.

TatianaBis · 05/06/2021 17:42

If Inès you need to use the grave accent, otherwise it’s Innes.

Either that or use a z - Inez.

KnottedFern · 05/06/2021 16:08

I love Nina & Ines together. But I do think Nina & Maya is good as well. I lived with a lovely girl from Poland called Inés while I was at uni so has good vibes for me.

sarah13xx · 05/06/2021 15:26

Absolutely love Rowan, it would be in my top names if I was having a girl

Stevearnottsbeard · 05/06/2021 14:54

Really don't like rowan, I'm not a huge fan of maya either but obviously that's non negotiable but out of curiosity how you planning on pronouncing it? So I would go with Ines. Love nina by the way

Rfjkf · 05/06/2021 12:51

I love Ines. Really not keen on Rowan

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/06/2021 12:49

Ines is very lovely. Rowan is a boys name to me but I know it isn't always.

Synchrony · 05/06/2021 12:39

Ines because Rowan is a boy's name and it bugs me when boys names become unusable because they are given to lots of girls.

Whatsyourflava · 05/06/2021 11:47

Nina and Ines sound lovely together.
Rowan is far more common than Nina numbers-wise so might feel like more of an after-thought trendy twin name option in comparison. I'd feel a bit short changed if my name was top 100 and my twins was more unsual. Whereas Ines feels more special to me, same as Nina.

TooTiredForToday · 05/06/2021 10:41

I think they are both a bit boyish sounding too, tbh, I appreciate it's not exactly the same but Innes is a popular boy's name here and Rowan I wouldn't know if it was a boy or girl. I also agree that Ines and Nina are a mouthful together...

Maya is lovely. What is Nina's middle name?

CaitlinEJ · 05/06/2021 10:33

Ines

Squeakerfoot · 05/06/2021 00:06

Both are lovely. Ines is my preference. I think it's really nice having Maya as a middle name as it's unusual in that position and it's a pretty name.

Fauvist · 04/06/2021 23:07

You can't have Ines and Nina. That sounds a bit mad.

Babyfg · 04/06/2021 22:52

Love ines. I hadn't thought of it when I had my dd but I always think if I had another (which I won't be!) it would definitely be on my list.

CaitlinEJ · 04/06/2021 21:41

Maya is definitely the middle name, a family name to honor my sister and it doesn’t work with the twins name (Nina)

Ines Maya

Whatsyourflava · 04/06/2021 20:58

Ines is lovely. Perfect combination of being familiar but not overdone
Rowan is the opposite of that now, it's a nice enough name but there's a lot of Roman and Rowans being born in the past couple of years. They merge into one now there's a lot of them and that takes the shine off. I also don't like nickname Row
