Can’t use my only boy name

Due in 5 weeks time. We have seriously struggled with a boys name we both agree on, we finally found one a few weeks ago and I felt really settled on it, I don’t 100% love it but I seriously haven’t come across anything else I wanted to consider.

The name is Archer. A family member has just announced her babies birth and this is her babies name! Typical! But it is what it is, we never told anyone so it’s just a complete coincidence.

So if I liked Archer, what else might I like? Please help!

Jonathan.

After Jonathan Archer. (If you get the reference, you get it)

Jonah goes great with Noah

Erm....DH has some very ‘out there’ suggestions. For example names like Augustus, Dakota, Bear etc. So you maybe able to understand why I was thrilled we finally agreed on a fairly normal sounding name like Archer. It still appealed to his ‘wanting to find a rare name’ side but one I would feel comfortable shouting over the park etc.

It’s surprising really we have a Noah, he didn’t like the name Noah but after my 3 days of labour and him being born in quite a scary emergency situation he just looked at me and nodded when the midwife asked if we had a name and gave me the go ahead to use it. Now he loves the name and it suits our son so much even though it’s like top popularity!

What does your DH like? Has he actually made any suggestions? You've mentioned a few nice names that you like but he's rejected. None the other way around.

FWIW I think there are a lot of names suggested on this thread that are much much nicer than Archer. You'll probably end up preferring the name you eventually choose. Or have a girl Grin

CherryonBiscuit · 04/06/2021 15:21

Who cares if this person thinks you copied them? So what? They'll think of it fleetingly then forget all about it. They won't particularly care what anyone else calls their own child I expect. If you like Archer just stick with it - it's a lovely name. Just message and warm them if you're concerned and then forget all about it
Asa and Axel also nice
Ellis is one of my fav names ever so maybe pick that. Again if your friend thinks you've copied, so what? Just tell them you already liked it.

Heath is very cool! I’ve not heard of any around here.

I suggested Fraser the other day but DH wasn’t keen.

Yes to Grayson, it’s a great name but another I wouldn’t be able to use as already used in the family.

Most of those 80s and 90s name suggestions we have in the family and are used as middle names for our kids these days Grin

I definitely think I’ll make a shortlist and see what suits him when he arrives, if he is a he after all this!

I really like Reid from that list flytrap!

Asher still sounds a bit like Archer to me..not keen on Archie
Jasper and Cooper also good but Isaac would be really good!
Maybe make a shortlist of 4 and decide when you meet him..

Other Noah siblings i know Ned (Edward), Set, Kit, Theo, Barnaby,
Felix and Toby (tobias) ..

Ifonlyidknownthen · 04/06/2021 12:44

I can't help thinking the names we had back in the 80s and 90s were nice and will most certainly make a comeback at some point but won't be too common in the generations being born now, which is good imo.

Such as

Stephen/steven
Christopher
Micheal
Mark
Matthew
David
Robert
Daniel

Yes! Love Asher I must of missed that suggestion earlier somehow.

I also really like Cooper.

Hmmm.....Evan is quite nice.

And yes we discussed Archie as an alternative to Archer, I’m not sure, I know that’s silly as it’s practically the same name but it just makes me think of Harry and Meg.

CassTheFox · 04/06/2021 12:17

If you like Ellis.. what about Elias?

Or Xander sounds a little bit like Archer?! Good luck deciding I’m sure you’ll find the perfect one

stressfuljune · 04/06/2021 12:15

Hudson or Hunter

Hallyup6 · 04/06/2021 12:14

I love the suggestion of Asher. Goes with Noah brilliantly.

partyatthepalace · 04/06/2021 12:12

Bugger

Archie? Arthur, Aaron, Aaron, Alistair, Evan, Caleb, Ronan, Ethan, Reuben, Jacob, Joseph

MrsXx4 · 04/06/2021 11:59

Yeah I find boys names really hard! We have a girls name we both love and agree on so at least that’s sorted but I have a strong feeling this baby is another boy.

I really like Seth and Isaac but DH has said no to both of those names previously.

He has said no to Hudson which is a shame as it’s really sticking with me at the moment.
