The Scottish Gaelic spelling for "Rory" (but it's not really pronounced that way) is Ruairidh. There is a rule in Gaelic spelling that says which vowels should follow and surround a consonant. If you want to use a Gaelic name, it's surely only polite and respectful to follow the correct spelling

@Mrsjayy

Oh and Rory spelt the Scottish way

Ruaridh.

Except, this isn't pronounced Rory. It's Roo-ray (and Gaelic).

I would disagree and say that Euan is really popular in Scotland! I know lots of Euans.

I have 3 DS. One is Cailean and 2nd is Brodie. I was keen for Arran or Lorne for DS3 but was vetoed by DH and he is a more popular top ten name.

Other names I had on the list were
Lewis
Ruaraidh
Lachlan

For girls I only had a few

Mairi
Isla
Eilidh

I really like Kirsty now too.

I also know of a Gigha (not sure if she’s named after the island or the 80s Ford model, hopefully the island!). Quite like that name and very unusual.

When I was choosing baby names I loved a YouTube called SJ Strum. I've linked her two videos on Scottish baby names below - she goes through the names and their meanings etc. which is interesting.
