What are your thoughts on Anne? Not Anna, Annabel, Anneliese etc just Anne, possibly nn Annie.

Also any suggestion for other similar type of 'plain names' like Anne, Jane etc

Lovely

SenecaFallsRedux · 02/06/2021 20:12

I think it's a lovely name. Generally speaking, I think you can't go wrong with any woman's name that has belonged to a Queen regnant in the countries of the UK.

IsolaPribby · 02/06/2021 20:02

Well, as long as it's spelled with an 'e'.

Serpenta · 02/06/2021 20:00

Hilda is not, has never been, and never will be a 'cool kid name'.

Changedmyname1357 · 02/06/2021 19:54

I'm usually a massive fan of old lady names but I can't warm to Anne. Anna and Annie are so much nicer, Anne is so dowdy in comparison.

Kittykatmacbill · 02/06/2021 19:47

Love it I have an Annie though so may be biased. I kinda wonder if she might drop the i but doesn’t seem to.

Similar names I think are Mary, Greta / Maggie (you can’t have bothConfused), Ellen, Edith and Hilda. All cool kid names and not fluffy.

MotherofPearl · 02/06/2021 19:10

Anne is a beautiful name imo.

iduno · 02/06/2021 18:51

I don't like it, very old fashioned. I think Anna is ok.

99point9FahrenheitDegrees · 02/06/2021 18:46

I have an Anne and I think it's fab, obviously. Very unusual name for her age group, so never having to be Anne A, Anne B, Anne C... Annie is a natural nickname, and you can always give her a second name to play with.

Anniecott · 02/06/2021 18:45

I'm a 50 something Anne and the only person left that calls me that is my husband when I've pissed him off, been going by Annie for a long time now, just naturally morphed into it, from my friends using it more and more, obviously I still have to use for legal documents and because of the 'e' I'm always getting letters to
Mrs Ann witherane surname!!!!!!

ozymandiusking · 02/06/2021 18:42

Utterly boring. Of all the beautiful names you could choose, and you want Ann!

Gingertam · 02/06/2021 18:42

Too plain - sorry. I like classic names, but Anne is just dull. I like Annie and Anna.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 02/06/2021 18:38

I'm obviously a fan. Classic.

minipie · 02/06/2021 18:35

I don’t mind it

I much prefer Eve, Beth and Kate though.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 02/06/2021 18:35

I prefer Anna....... Which can also be Anne.

I like either though, if you like it then go for it.

Also like Eve, which is short but lovely.

VerbenaGirl · 02/06/2021 18:33

I like it, and it’s both classic and works contemporarily. I know a teenage Annie and that’s lovely too.

MangosteenSoda · 02/06/2021 18:31

I like Anne and I like ‘boring’ names!

My girl name was Anna (I had a DS) and that would have been named for an Anne who is a very close relative (an alive relative so I wanted a variation rather than same name).

I also like Mary, Kate, Alice, Kay and Erin which imo also fit the bill.

toastofthetown · 02/06/2021 18:29

Anne is a classic name, but I don't think it's a timeless classic like some are suggesting as there's a very expected age range for an Anne, in a way there isn't for Elizabeth or Thomas. Anne is very refreshing though against the vowel heavy names which are popular with girls at the moment.

3peassuit · 02/06/2021 18:23

Lovely name. Due a comeback.

YourCakesAreShit · 02/06/2021 18:21

I love it.

Teessider · 02/06/2021 17:41

Couldn't be duller

zingally · 02/06/2021 17:05

Boring as heck, and very dated.

Plus, I personally only know one Anne (in her late 30s), and she's a singularly unpleasant AND boring woman! So... the name is rather spoilt for me.

Thurlow · 02/06/2021 16:38

Its my name Grin

It stands out at the moment because no one expects me to be my age, I can see most people expect someone older.

Plus most non-native English speakers seem to pronounce it Annie!

But it’s probably a good name...

hiptobeasquare · 02/06/2021 16:33

Maybe I am bias because I have an Anne, but I don’t think of it as a full name. Just a solid, strong name. I don’t think an Anne would stand for any nonsense.

SavannahLands · 02/06/2021 16:04

It’s a Timeless Classic, it was my Childhood GPs name, and l used in in her honour after she she cared for me and delivered my first three DDs.

DD3 is now known as Annie.
