Just that really, what do you all think of Cosmo (for a boy)?

Would also love any other suggestions for boys and girls. Others I like are Ludo, Alexis, Felix (boys) Astrid, Lois, Erin (girls)

Thanks!!

( I also know a cosimo aged 2)

TuvoknotSpock · 03/06/2021 21:06

DD would have been either Cosmo or cosimo (DH permitting)

If i have a ds2 he is going to be Cosmo or Magnus!

do you not think these kind of names will be like Gary and Jason? Names that date a child?

These are fashionable names that rise up the charts quickly and then fall out fashion and sound dated.

Examples imo include Alfie, Archie, Finn etc

Cosmo is a much more timeless name that is unlikely to become super fashionable quickly.

I like Cosmo.

@WyldStallions

Genuine question.

I don't think Cosmo is that kind of name at all. There are threads going back about 15 odd years asking for opinions on this name and it's never been in the top 100 AFAIK. I've never met or heard of a Cosmo in real life.

The names that will be very much of their time are ones like Archie, Alfie, Luca, etc.

Really interesting question! Honestly, you’re probably right. I suppose people who names their children Gary/Jason loved them at the time and didn’t think about how ‘trendy’ the names were at the time (however funny that is to think of Gary being a cool name!)

I suppose that’s why the ‘classic’ names like William, James, etc etc are so popular because they don’t date. But they’re just not to my taste! So yes my taste in names possibly will go out of fashion, but personally I’m ok with that! Interesting point though!

Not really as Gary and Jason, while dated nlw, are still 'normal' There are thousands of 45 year old Gary's and Jason's. That won't be the case for Cosmo. Maybe for Jayden and Tyler though.

ChrissyPlummer · 03/06/2021 06:51

Reminds me of Bridget Jones.

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 01/06/2021 22:08

Love Cosmo!

TatianaBis · 01/06/2021 20:35

Cosmo and Artemis would go really well together.

3CCC · 01/06/2021 20:04

Astrid in Crazy Rich Asians is fab

Not really come across the name until I read those books 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

TatianaBis · 01/06/2021 11:30

Astrid in English sounds like some kind of pest killer.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 01/06/2021 11:30

@KaptainKaveman

Astrid has too many unfortunate terrorist associations IMO.
I’ve googled and I am still not sure what you mean.

Unless you’re referring to Astrid Proll from Baader-Meinhof?

BeesAnkles · 01/06/2021 11:18

Love Cosmo and it's top of our list for DS2. We weren't brave enough to use it for DS1 and were kind of put off after an in-law made a joke about the magazine but I'm starting to think what the hell!

The thing about unusual names is that people either love them or hate them so you have to be prepared for unkind comments. I'm still debating whether my skin is thick enough!

AmyD54321 · 01/06/2021 11:15

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Felix and Erin are very nice but seem quite "normal" ie. popular compared to your other choices imo. Cosmo is gorgeous but I don't know I'd personally be brave enough (in case he was bothered by space jokes), I love cool Scandi Astrid though despite the "ass" thing. Ludo is a bit doggy/pet for me, Alexis quite feminine sounding in the UK and Lois is not my taste (but nothing wrong with it).

Ivo, Lucian or Maxim for a boy? Iris, Artemis or Greta for a girl?

Love all your alternative suggestions, especially Lucian and Artemis, exactly my taste - thanks!

Be aware that Astrid sounds to me, as a German, like arse-kick (as in to give someone's arse a kick, not positive). So if any German connections, don't use it.

DramaAlpaca · 31/05/2021 22:57

I don't like it at all, sorry.

Tillygetsit · 31/05/2021 22:55

Cosmo will always be a grumpy Jack Russell to me! I'm not awfully keen on your boy's names but Lois in particular is lovely.

funnyoldonion · 31/05/2021 22:51

You know what I love Cosmo and I named my kitten this but actually changed it due to all the annoying comments about cocktails and magazines so unless you can be bothered with that I'd maybe use something else. Interestingly my daughter's name is on your list too!

cocoloco987 · 31/05/2021 22:47

Cosmo - like the chain buffet restaurant where one goes to over indulge on many types of foods and deserts and leaves barely able to move. Sorry that's all I can think of (and maybe the magazine a little)

partyatthepalace · 31/05/2021 21:08

I don’t mind Cosmo, although makes me think of Jilly Cooper novels. Cassian, Caspian or Bruno might be alternatives. I like Ludovic with Ludo as nn, and like Alexander with Alexis as nn. I have an irrational dislike of Felix.

For girls I love Lois and don’t know why it isn’t used more. Astrid is also lovely but seems to be about to have a moment. Erin is a bit downmarket, like Lauren in the 90s. Ines, Frances, Ffion, Robin, Cleo or Juno might be alternatives.

Luckingfovely · 31/05/2021 13:11

You have excellent taste in names! Cosmo is brilliant.

MissingTheMoonlight · 31/05/2021 13:01

Sorry but sounds like the name for a guinea pig or rabbit to me

3CCC · 31/05/2021 12:53

I like Cosmo but prefer Ludo and Felix from your list

Love Astrid and I like Erin. Not that keen on Lois
