DH and I both big Beatles fans, I have always loved the name Loretta. Thoughts?

OP posts:

It’s a bit trashy, I think it’s quite fun but I wouldn’t want to be called it

Happycat1212 · 29/05/2021 17:57

Dont like it

cariadlet · 29/05/2021 17:35

Sounds a bit too hillbilly to me.

DalPalak · 29/05/2021 17:18

It's a beautiful name. I think of Loretta Young before Life of Brian. Not bad associations in my opinion. If you love the name, you should go for it!

Fuckingcrustybread · 29/05/2021 16:21

Hot lips Houlihan in M A S H , also life of Brian. Those are the two things that I think of when Loretta is mentioned.

@RaspberryCoulis

Francis : Why are you always on about women, Stan?

Stan : I want to be one.

Reg : What?

Stan : I want to be a woman. From now on, I want you all to call me 'Loretta'.

Reg : What?

Stan : It's my right as a man.

Judith : Well, why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?

Stan : I want to have babies.

Reg : You want to have babies?

Stan : It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them.

Reg : But... you can't have babies!

Stan : Don't you oppress me!

Reg : I'm not oppressing you, Stan! You haven't got a womb! Where's the foetus going to gestate? You going to keep it in a box?

🤔

My sister in law is called Loretta.... is like it...she’s 50 and no one has ever shortened it

RaspberryCoulis · 29/05/2021 15:29

Life of Brian. If you haven't seen it, you really should. It's what immediately springs to mind when I see Loretta.

alexdgr8 · 29/05/2021 15:27

don't understand that piece of dialogue at all, but guess it's from a film/book. nor the point of it.
anyway

Loretta is lovely. what a good choice. wise parents.

PurpleRainDancer · 29/05/2021 15:26

It's ok if you live in Nashville

Love it

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/05/2021 14:36

I like it, and I never usually like the names suggested on here 🤣. I would worry that people wouldn't pronounce the T's though.

Amdone123 · 29/05/2021 14:32

Lydia from Towie chose this name. I thought it quite refreshing.
I wouldn't choose it as it's too similar to the college I attended, but if you like, go for it.

championthewonderhorse70 · 29/05/2021 14:28

I knew a Loretta. Got called Lottie

Serpenta · 29/05/2021 14:21

A bit country, in an Appalachian, bluegrass, coal miner's daughter kinda way. I suppose I'm thinking of Loretta Lynn.

It's not my style of name but it would sound fresh amongst all the Evie and Ellie and Victoriana names. Smile
