Thoughts on Loretta?

DH and I both big Beatles fans, I have always loved the name Loretta. Thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@TatianaBis

Or you could just grow up.
Happy to say that I am. So we’re all sorted on that front. Guess you just need to sort out the bullying now. Don’t want to tell you how to parent or anything, but generally not letting your kids watch age 15 rated films ‘hundreds of times’ can help. Good luck.

Ah that’s a shame. Maybe you can work on that with them.

There was one in my class at school in the 70s, she was a spiteful little madam. For that reason alone I don’t like it sorry.

TatianaBis · 30/05/2021 13:50

@Washyourtoes Desperate.

HoldingTheDoor · 30/05/2021 13:48

It's a rather unattractive name. It has strong associations with Country and Western music for me too, although that might be a bonus if you're a fan.

Washyourtoes · 30/05/2021 13:41

@TatianaBis

LoB is a classic. My kids have all seen it 100 times.
And do they go and bully kids because they heard their name in a film?

I never understand why people bring up old films eg monty python or random tv shows like east Enders or whatever. It’s not as if the contemporaries of said child will have ever watched them. By the time they hit school there’ll probably unflattering portrayal of Arlo or Evie or whatever names you feel are ‘acceptable’. It’s a lovely name and at least she won’t be one of ten in her class

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 30/05/2021 09:52

Yep...i immediately thought of life of brian too!

cornflowersandbluebells · 30/05/2021 09:48

It’s so annoying when people do this to threads.

I think Lynn, as in Loretta Lynn, rather than LOB but I don’t think that’s a reason to avoid it, necessarily. I think it’s pretty enough but I’d worry about it being said ‘Loh-Reh-Uh.’

20viona · 30/05/2021 09:47

Awful

scrivette · 30/05/2021 09:46

I know of an English Loretta. It's a pretty name although definitely has American vibes to it.

TatianaBis · 30/05/2021 09:44

It’s a joke name. Life of Brian.

ufucoffee · 30/05/2021 07:38

I think it's a lovely name

Geamhradh · 30/05/2021 07:38

It's a very old fashioned nickname in Italy. One famous singer in her 80s.
Or country and western, as others have said.

sorryiasked · 30/05/2021 07:35

Not great to be honest.
How about Larissa?

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/05/2021 07:30

Very US hillbillly.

Tillygetsit · 29/05/2021 23:03

We have one in the family. She's lovely and so is her name. Good choice OP

Washyourtoes · 29/05/2021 23:03

I know an awesome UK teenager called Loretta. It’s a lovely name.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/05/2021 22:55

Awful.

RickiTarr · 29/05/2021 22:53

I had the same first thought as @RaspberryCoulis (The Life of Brian, Monty Python) but there’s also the lovely Loretta Young as an association.

For anyone curious:-

AdaColeman · 29/05/2021 22:50

Reminds me of the Spanish holiday resort, Loretta del Mar.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/05/2021 22:38

Are you in the UK? While Loretta is pretty, it's probably not something I'd use here - it has a very strong American image to me (possibly because I've never met a UK Loretta!).

Macblondie · 29/05/2021 22:19

I know a Lauretta. I really like it, either spelling. Smile
