Ophelia?

Not sure what we are having yet but I have a feeling its another girl. Our first daughter is called Honor Florence LastName
At the moment potential middle names for baby2 are Lavender or Grace
Opinions on Ophelia?
Ophelia Lavender - bit too much of a mouthful
Ophelia Grace - I do love this but I feel like Grace gets used a lot for a middle name
Does it sound right with Honor? I really love her name and want to find a name I love just as much for this baby!

I only know Ophelia as a burlesque name.

Ophelia Butt

Ophelia Balls etc.

So it's a no for me

TatianaBis · 30/05/2021 09:40

Why wouldn’t you imagine the parent has not read Hamlet? Confused

Jumpalicious · 30/05/2021 09:26

I always find it a try-hard hyacinth bucket name since I imagine the namer has never read hamlet. Sorry I know that’s harsh.

Jumpalicious · 30/05/2021 09:24

@Maria53

As much as I like the name, the association just makes me think of the character's awful fate in Hamlet. And the famous painting depicting it.
This. Every time.
CustardyCreams · 29/05/2021 06:35

I love it, but worry nickname would be “Pheels”

Homeontherangeuk · 29/05/2021 00:33

Love Ophelia but I think it would possibly get mixed up with Olivia?

daisypond · 28/05/2021 23:18

Strongly dislike Ophelia. It’s frilly and a big cringey. The Shakespeare heroine is tragic and wet. And it doesn’t go with Honor, which is elegant and classy.

Checkingout811 · 28/05/2021 23:17

Ophelia Violet?
Ophelia Rose

xprincessxjanetx · 28/05/2021 23:11

I like Ophelia

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/05/2021 20:40

Both Felicity and Madeleine are lovely choices for middle names (I'd spell Madeleine the traditional/more elegant way) - I think Madeleine sounds nicest with Ophelia though as you don't replicate the strong "f" and "ee" sounds in both Ophelia and Felicity.

LottaBean · 28/05/2021 19:49

Ophelia Madelyn?
Ophelia Felicity?

Our surname begins with S and doesn't rhyme with anything rude! Although some of these comments are putting me off 😂

OP posts:
EssentialHummus · 28/05/2021 09:45

I can’t get past rude jokes and Hamlet with it, unfortunately. Really dislike it.

Fruityfriday · 28/05/2021 09:44

Just so long as your last name isn't Balls or Cox

EmeraldShamrock · 28/05/2021 09:41

It is a lovely name I know one adult with it however it is popular now there'll be lots of Ophelia's in the future.

saraclara · 28/05/2021 09:39

Ophelia is 'Feel yer' to me,

Yep. I can't hear it without rude jokes coming to mind. The kid runs the risk of a lifetime of such 'jokes'.

TwinsAndTrifle · 28/05/2021 09:27

Ophelia and Ottilie are both overused at the mo, and I think (sorry) smack of someone trying to sound pretentious. Honor is beautiful. But as it starts with a hard "O" (as in Oscar) I think a second name like that jars when put alongside.

Grace, as PP have said. A dull filler name.

But, OP, if these are the names you love, go with your gut and choose what you love most.

TatianaBis · 28/05/2021 09:17

I meant in life not in Hamlet!

KaptainKaveman · 28/05/2021 09:09

@TatianaBis

Everyone dies. A tragic romantic death in literature is fine by me.
Not quite. Horatio and Fortinbras survive.
WeeFae · 28/05/2021 06:45

The latest Radford baby is called Ophelia

SteveArnottsCodeine · 27/05/2021 16:08

I’m sorry but whatever else Ophelia is- and in isolation I can see that it’s quite a pretty name- it’s literally only associated with one story and in that story Ophelia drowns!!!

KaptainKaveman · 27/05/2021 15:57

It's beautiful. Of all the characters in Hamlet she is the only one who is pure and uncorrupted. Her brother calls her 'Rose of May' when she dies - why don't you call your dd Ophelia May, or Ophelia Rose? truly Shakespearian (and exceptionally pretty).

ILoveShula · 27/05/2021 15:53

Iris has a similar vibe to Honor.

Ophelia is 'Feel yer' to me, and is too fussy, too hamlety and too similar to Amelia, Aurelia etc. Delia is nicer

Amdone123 · 27/05/2021 10:12

I love Honor. It's classy and elegant. Orphelia - too many for me. It's like Arlo for a boy. A bit too try hard, IMHO. Juliet has the same vibe as Honor for me. I've always loved Grace and only know of 1 !

TatianaBis · 27/05/2021 10:06

Love Ophelia Iris.

Grace is just a bland filler name.
