I like traditional / old fashioned names - but is Hester going too far? I’ve always thought it was beautiful!

@Babydust13

I prefer Honour I know one she's lovely
The name is spelt Honor.
SirSamuelVimes · 25/05/2021 21:06

I kind of like it but it could easily be frumpy... I'm on the fence but if I had to get the splinters out of my arse I'd say no.

Hero is amazing though!

Babydust13 · 25/05/2021 21:03

I prefer Honour I know one she's lovely

Horehound · 25/05/2021 20:42

I just read this out to my husband and his first thought was "it sounds like a STI" like "you've got a bad case of Hester-itis" 😂😂

I'm also not understanding the love for Honor. It seems really chavvy to me Confused

partyatthepalace · 25/05/2021 20:32

Esther and Honor are both nicer but Hester is fine.

I’d go for Honor as Esther getting quite popular.

Synchrony · 25/05/2021 16:37

There was a thread about Hester recently you could look up. I really like Hester, it makes me think of The Greengage Summer.

DennisTMenace · 25/05/2021 15:47

I like it a lot. I can imagine it suiting any angle whereas a lot of the names around at the moment seem to suit little girls more than adults. I also like the other H names. Not Lettis though.

DramaAlpaca · 25/05/2021 14:10

I like Hester. I also like Honor and Hero. Not Lettice though, godawful name.

HoldingTheDoor · 25/05/2021 13:40

Hester is awful. Honor is much nicer.

sunmoonstarry · 25/05/2021 13:07

I like it but if you live near Cheltenham don't - there's a Hester's Way there and it's GRIM.

Lanique · 25/05/2021 13:07

MNers always seem to love Hester, god knows why. Of all the beautiful-sounding names out there... why?!

Honor, however, is lovely.

Serpenta · 25/05/2021 13:06

Honor is a totally normal name to me. No bravery required in picking that one.

Lettice is AWFUL.

Serpenta · 25/05/2021 13:04

It's a bit dowdy. A downtrodden Puritan woman.

Toilenstripes · 25/05/2021 13:04

I always think of Hester the molester from Catcher in the Rye. It’s an ugly name, like Bertha and Dorcas.

linerforlife · 25/05/2021 13:03

I like them! Have you considered Hera instead of Hero? Beautiful name. Hetty as a nickname for Hester is also lovely.

EdithGrantham · 25/05/2021 13:03

Hester was our front runner until we met a friend of a friend called Hester who was really annoying! I also love Lettice/Lettis but DH looked at me like I'd gone mad and said we might as well choose Iceberg or Rocket.

Tavannach · 25/05/2021 13:02

I like Hester. And Honor.

TatianaBis · 25/05/2021 12:58

I love Honor and Hero. I think they are less 'brave' than Hester in that they are nice whereas Hester is ick.

(Not sure why Honor would be brave unless you're very conservative).

CloudPop · 25/05/2021 12:06

I like Hester

PastaLaVistaBBY · 25/05/2021 11:51

Maybe I need to bring Honor back into consideration! I thought it was a bit much, so it’s nice to hear so many people like it.

Love Hester and Honor

NotFrozen · 25/05/2021 11:20

I have a wonderful friend with this name- it’s beautiful, and she is probably one of the kindest most lovely people I know, and so I would endorse the name based on her!

Chilldonaldchill · 25/05/2021 11:17

Hester has been my all time favourite name since reading AoGG. My husband vetoed it though.

QwertyGirly · 25/05/2021 10:31

I also prefer Esther. It's lovely, and my Grandmother's name.

BettyUnderswoob · 25/05/2021 10:26

I don't like it. It sounds like a hairy monster with asthma.

At the very least it's frumpy, clunky and inelegant.

Honor and Esther are OK
