What are your thoughts on Aspen? If you know any are they male or female?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
daisypond · 24/05/2021 18:08

I think tree and I rather like it. Could be for boy or girl - like Rowan.

AuntieUrsula · 24/05/2021 17:10

There was a girl called Aspen in DD's ballet class. She'd be 15 now

ODFOx · 24/05/2021 17:07

Are you British OP?
What about Aviemore if you like names that are places, or Larch if you like names that are trees.

EssentialHummus · 24/05/2021 16:03

I’d assume American parents but it’s ok imo.

Sakura7 · 24/05/2021 16:00

Ski resort.
Ass pen.

It's a no from me.

KatherineJaneway · 24/05/2021 15:57

I think of skiing and John Denver.

Christmasbird · 24/05/2021 15:18

Ass pen.

TatianaBis · 24/05/2021 15:07

I like nature names in general, but the link to the ski resort just makes it sound naffly wannabe US aspirational to me.

user1471604848 · 24/05/2021 13:55

My first thought was : nice and outdoorsy.
I would assume a person called Aspen was American.

Cindie943811A · 24/05/2021 13:31

About 20 years ago I met a little boy (10/11ish) called Aspen. Didn’t appear to be any issues about his name — his mother and I had a discussion about it. I thought it was unusual without being ott. I haven’t met another since

VenusClapTrap · 24/05/2021 13:02

Not really my cup of tea. And I think it would be tedious always having to spell it or say “like the ski resort” in response to the blank faces after being asked her name.

CobraChicken · 24/05/2021 05:47

Common girl's name here (Canada) and I do really like names inspired by nature, in general, but as others have already said, I don't think I'd risk using any name that would most likely be shortened to "Ass".

Changedname81 · 24/05/2021 05:36

Ass pen here for me too - sorry op, it’s so pretty too.

FWIW I do love all the American names like

Tatum
Payton
Sailor

Etc Smile

UrbanRambler · 24/05/2021 00:45

Not keen.

Happycat1212 · 24/05/2021 00:20

I do like it however I would never use it and I don’t like the “ass” sound and they will clearly be teased for that, even when older I can imagine people calling them ass as a nickname , so it’s a no from me!

KillerFlamingo · 24/05/2021 00:08

I just googled it and yes, Aspen is their eldest son.

AlwaysLatte · 24/05/2021 00:07

It's pretty but I wouldn't want to give a child any name that might encourage Ass as a derivative.

Thisisjaaam · 24/05/2021 00:04

Very American but I really like it!
Feminine IMO

KillerFlamingo · 24/05/2021 00:04

I'm sure the "first British Gay Dads" couple many years ago named their twins Saffron and Aspen, only time I recall hearing it as a name but it's ok.

PatsArrow · 24/05/2021 00:03

It's the name of our school caterers. So it's a no from me.

Even so, I think it sounds like a medicine.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/05/2021 23:53

1st thought that came to me as well ski resort. 2nd was a nursing home called aspin court

Notanotherusernamenow · 23/05/2021 23:53

Ski resort. Too many Ass jokes to be made. And with how Americanised our comedy is (esp on YouTube) you can guarantee that kids will know the word ass on the playground.

Thedogscollar · 23/05/2021 23:51

Ski resort.
Might sound ok in USA not so much in UK.

IslandLulu · 23/05/2021 23:46

Will be shortened to Ass in the playground.

So no.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 23/05/2021 23:37

I really like it but think it's quite a brave choice in the UK

I suppose it could be for a boy or a girl but I know it as a girls name
