What do you think of Olive as sibling for Sofia?

I’m really warming to it...just need to convince dp!
And think of a boys name....

I love it, way cooler than Olivia. Just asked DD's 11 and 8 who Popeye is and they haven't a clue so don't think the association will be an issue by the time she's at school

AlwaysonEtsy · 25/05/2021 19:37

Back to the drawing board! Might use it for a middle name.
What do you think of Lucas if a boy?

Tal45 · 24/05/2021 19:33

I don't like Olive, sounds very hard and I think Olivia goes much more nicely with Sophia.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 24/05/2021 19:26

@SoMuchForSummerLove

Sofia is lovely and quite graceful. To me, Olive is the exact opposite, very lumpen and an unattractive sound. They're very different.
That's how I feel! I'd feel hard done by if my name was Olive and my sister had a sophisticated name like Sophia.
BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/05/2021 19:25

Lovely ☺️

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/05/2021 19:18

Love!

PiuVinoPerFavore · 24/05/2021 18:08

Vivienne
Lilian
Edith
Anna
Luisa/ Louisa

I wouldn't worry about an Italian name, loads of Italian names are well integrated into British culture now, especially girls names.

ForeveronEtsy · 24/05/2021 16:52

Argh you know what I think you are right!
The issue I am having is I want it to go with Sofia (so similar style) but not sound too Italian as I am only half Italian and it seems a bit much if that makes sense.
So any more suggestion of pretty, timeless names please?
Jury is out for boys names! The ones I like tend to be popular and traditionally English, like George and Freddie

Sofia snd Olive don’t sound right at all they are very different names

Violetlavenders · 24/05/2021 06:31

Olive 🫒 is an oily green vegetable.

I'm really not keen.

subbysammiexoxo · 24/05/2021 02:12

prefer the italian suggestions, either olivia or olive as a middle name, olives are like marmite and it reminds people of frumpy women because of olive from on the buses

whatausername · 23/05/2021 23:11

I'd feel hard done by if I were the Olive and not Sophia tbh.

MerylSqueak · 23/05/2021 22:37

I know an Olive. Everyone feels vaguely sorry for her for her name and she hates it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/05/2021 22:31

Sofia sounds very popular European, Olive is more unusual English retro/vintage to me (so I'm not keen). I think Olivia, although super popular in the UK, works much better somehow. Other names that work with Sofia to me (all popular in a few different European countries) :

Emilia
Maya
Anna
Eva
Elena
Ella
Mila

Elias
Lucas
Leo
Felix
Alexander
Gabriel
Max(imilian)

RoseMartha · 23/05/2021 15:38

It is a no from me. I dont like Olivia though tbh either.

I also think Sophia and Olive are different style names

KatherineJaneway · 23/05/2021 15:33

Olivia is a yes, Olive is a no for me.

Mimsytove · 23/05/2021 15:32

Olive is lumpy. Olivia or livia.

MrsBungle · 23/05/2021 15:26

I don’t think it goes very well with Sofia.

TatianaBis · 23/05/2021 15:25

Really dislike it. Who wants to be named after an olive?

Much prefer Olivia but it is everywhere.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 23/05/2021 12:00

Sofia is a beautiful Italian name. Goes lovely with

Francesca
Alessia
Lucia
Arianna
Gaia

Matteo/Matthew
Antonio/Anthony
Marco
Lucas
Rocco
Rosco (I used to know an adorable Rosco)

Sarcobaleno · 23/05/2021 11:47

I'm not keen. Sofia is so lovely, particularly like that spelling too. It is graceful and has a lovely international vibe. Olive sounds matronly and frumpy. Sisters can have a competitive dynamic and you are giving one sister a definite advantage with names here! Names with a similar vibe to Sofia would be Ana or Lara?

CaviarAndCigarettes · 23/05/2021 11:31

I like Olive. I also think the name Lydia goes well with Sofia.

BiBabbles · 23/05/2021 11:23

I think it's nice though I prefer Olivine out of the feminine Olive names.

Hope it all goes well for you Flowers

LeafBeetle · 23/05/2021 10:35

Love both these names

ForeveronEtsy · 23/05/2021 10:35

Hmm mixed reviews!
Thank you for the suggestions. I get what you mean about them being a different style. I think this is what I’m struggling with!
Maybe Olive as a middle name?
Liking the boys suggestions
