So i was planning on naming my daughter Raven, she's due in September, but i found a really nice unusual name but i don't know what other people would think about it, Shado. What do you think of the name Shado? TIA

Shado the saddo- children can be cruel

Octavia is lovely

Raven is not so lovely

Maskedrevenger · 22/05/2021 22:22

My neighbour has a collie named shadow, it really suits the dog, a baby not so much.

AngelinaJoliestoplip · 22/05/2021 22:18

Sorry OP, dislike both. IMO, babies and goth names don’t really go together. 🤷‍♀️

CatsPyjama · 22/05/2021 22:15

The reactions on this thread is the reactions your child will get when they tell people their name.

TentTalk · 22/05/2021 22:14

Raven is at least a name. I'm not keen but wouldn't blink at it.

Shado, I'd think all sorts of negative things about you (rightly or wrongly). It's a name that you, and probably your kid, will be judged negatively for.

2bazookas · 22/05/2021 22:12

Shado the sheepdog. Don't do it.

SquashMinusIsShit · 22/05/2021 22:11

@Cleverpolly3

If I’m being honest they both sound like stage names from the tv show Gladiators
Definitely Grin bloody loved that show
Thisisjaaam · 22/05/2021 22:11

Shado should be pronounced Shay-doh
If you want to use Shadow, spell it Shadow

namechangemarch21 · 22/05/2021 22:10

Using standard English pronunciation rules, most people will pronounce 'Shado' 'Shaydo'.

If you want Shadow, I'd spell it Shadow, though its not an unusual name so much as it is a word. I would prefer Raven personally, but if you want it pronounced Shadow, spell it Shadow or you'll both be driven mad by correcting people constantly.

Fleetw00d · 22/05/2021 22:10

I prefer Raven, one thing that comes to mind is the Ravens connection to omens of death etc , but I also considered it before this. Is she likely to be dark haired? Not sure it would suit a blonde baby! Shado is an excellent name for a black lab but not for a baby in my opinion

DalPalak · 22/05/2021 22:09

Keep to Raven. Shado is just strange.

MySocalledLoaf · 22/05/2021 22:09

People really quickly jump to ‘made up’ rather than from another culture.
If you have links to India, why not use Shado.

Checkingout811 · 22/05/2021 22:07

Raven Shadow Octavia ??

Don’t do it

CandyFIosss · 22/05/2021 22:06

Please don’t.

Raven is nice though.

daytriptovulcan · 22/05/2021 22:05

Way too gothic...

Meganoctavia · 22/05/2021 22:04

Her last name will be Octavia, i think shado(w) as a middle name would make the name too dark if theres Raven in the name too.

CatsPyjama · 22/05/2021 22:03

Terrible. It just looks like you can’t spell.

Meganoctavia · 22/05/2021 22:03

It's pronounced like Shadow, it's just spelt different

OP posts:
Crumpets12 · 22/05/2021 22:02

I really like the name Raven, I actually know one.

If shado is pronounced like shadow, controversially I would just spell it like Shadow. Personally, I think Raven sounds nicer though, especially for a first name.

Could always have Raven with Shado/shadow as a middle name, depending on what your last name is.

Checkingout811 · 22/05/2021 22:02

Shadow isn’t a good name, sorry.

Raven sounds okay if you can guarantee she is going to have brown eyes, dark hair etc

I can’t imagine a blonde haired, blue eyed child called Raven

Meganoctavia · 22/05/2021 22:00

Twilight characters had pretty normal names though

OP posts:
TheWitchCirce · 22/05/2021 21:59

Yikes. Shado is awful, in my opinion. I would pronounce it shay-doe if I saw it written down. Why on earth wouldn't you write it as shadow, if that's what you want to call her?

I grudgingly like Raven.

HerMammy · 22/05/2021 21:58

Probably be changed to saddo at school, both names are dreadful, your child is not a Twilight character.

NannyR · 22/05/2021 21:58

Is it pronounced shadow or shaydo (like shade)?
