So i was planning on naming my daughter Raven, she's due in September, but i found a really nice unusual name but i don't know what other people would think about it, Shado. What do you think of the name Shado? TIA

TheDaydreamBelievers · 22/05/2021 23:31

Kids in the UK will DEFINUTELY call her Saddo. I'd go for Raven.

Beautiful3 · 22/05/2021 23:31

Awful name. Sorry.

faithfulbird20 · 22/05/2021 23:23

Raven sounds nice. Shado...scared kids might pick on the child saying shayyyydoo or shaaaa Dow...

Meganoctavia · 22/05/2021 23:22

@NerdyBird

Are you a fan of The 100? There are characters Raven and Octavia in that show. I like Raven. Not keen on Shado at all.
Never watched it. Octavia is my surname so i didn't choose it.

@Fleetw00d

I prefer Raven, one thing that comes to mind is the Ravens connection to omens of death etc , but I also considered it before this. Is she likely to be dark haired? Not sure it would suit a blonde baby! Shado is an excellent name for a black lab but not for a baby in my opinion
Yes, she's most likely going to be dark haired and have brown eyes.

Raven is lovely. The red haired girl from Yorkshire farm is raven. Shado is just odd.

Babydust13 · 22/05/2021 23:14

I prefer Raven it's very strong

Tillygetsit · 22/05/2021 23:09

I once met a blonde blue eyed Raven and she,was delightful. Theres nothing wrong with a Gothic name and the OP shouldnt be patronised and spoken down to because it's not your cuppa.
Raven is lovely. Just Raven Octavia is enough without another name making it a bit of a mouthful. Raven Morgana is good too.

partyatthepalace · 22/05/2021 23:09

Raven is pretty naff and Shado really is beyond - both in meaning and misspelling - it just sounds like like you got some from some dodgy sci fi. It’s going to be rough on her if she doesn’t share the same taste.

If you want a gothic name all of these have associations with night or the supernatural but they also don’t scream ‘yes my mum was a goth’ from a hundred paces - there will be more obviously- Adrienne, Nova, Luna, Astra, Circe, Hestia, Jocasta, Sabrina, Lilith, Thora, Freya, Sylvia, Zelda, Amaris, Branwen, Brenna, Ciara, Leila, Livana, Morgana,

getyourfreakon · 22/05/2021 23:05

Raven is lovely. I'd go for that.

Echobelly · 22/05/2021 23:03

I like Raven, plus they are cool birds. Shado sounds a bit trashy tbh, and people would forever be pronouncing it 'Shade-oh'. Would be better to just use Shadow if you like the sound of it

Lindy2 · 22/05/2021 23:00

Well both are good names for pet dogs but I don't like them for a child.

Shado is just plain odd. Raven is marginally better but is more of a nickname for someone with very dark black hair. Any other colouring and it would seem a bit strange.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 22/05/2021 22:59

Shado is horrid as a name! Not a full person-a shado(w) of herself.

Raven isn’t nice but it isn’t as bad as Shado.

Phrowzunn · 22/05/2021 22:55

What has happened to you in your life OP that makes you want to do this to your beautiful baby? Do you want to talk to us about it?

Nannyamc · 22/05/2021 22:51

Love Raven could not do with the other one

LesleyA · 22/05/2021 22:49

Why start your child’s life without life and with sinister. Sky, light, love flipped fried egg is better than sinister Raven and sad shado.

TenThousandSpoons · 22/05/2021 22:49

Raven is better than Shado(w).

RubyFakeLips · 22/05/2021 22:47

Both sound very dark and Shado comes across as trying too hard to be unique and failing, as well as being a spelling fail!

I wouldn't have thought being named Shado has any good connotations? Usually a bit of a put down to call someone a shadow and Ravens are bad omens of death and lost souls. Grim.

PreferToSitInTheShade · 22/05/2021 22:47

I don't like either.

k1233 · 22/05/2021 22:45

I got Shaydo or Shahdo - certainly not Shaddo - so I'd say you'd be setting the kid up for a lifetime of mispronunciation and misspelling.

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/05/2021 22:45

Raven is lovely. Shado not so

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 22/05/2021 22:41

The eldest Owen child on My Yorkshire Farm is Raven. She has red hair. She's studying medicine and is a lovely girl. I thought OP had got this name from the programme. Shado is awful, but Raven is fine and will probably become more popular as will Clemmy.

WrongWayApricot · 22/05/2021 22:30

Shadon't (couldn't help myself, sorry).

I actually like both names, but I'm so used to shadow that the missing w bugs me even though it's not really missing. The meaning of land(?) doesn't do it for me either.

Ginger1982 · 22/05/2021 22:28

Both are terrible, sorry.
