Sadie or Cleo

Can't believe I'm questioning what thought was our chosen name again (Cleo) almost at due date and having another wobble. Out of interest do you prefer Sadie or Cleo?

Both great choices.

Arrierttyclock · 22/05/2021 20:25

Cleo

TatianaBis · 22/05/2021 20:13

Sadie is always the beginning of sadism to me.

DariaMorgendorffer · 22/05/2021 19:59

Sadie

Pinkypink · 22/05/2021 19:58

Cleo.
I like Sadie but I love Cleo. For me it sounds cool and elegant and the right sort of unusual

YorkshirePudding77 · 20/05/2021 22:55

I’m biased as I have a Cleo and I love it. It really suits her strong character. We’ve found some folks struggle with her name and automatically see Chloe which is annoying for her, she’s used to correcting people now!

DramaAlpaca · 20/05/2021 22:43

Cleo by about a million miles.

Cbeebiesrehab · 20/05/2021 22:42

@countydown1989 yes I do have quite a rough accentGrin accents do play a massive part in how a name can come across-any name with an AR sound in it sounds absolutely awful when I say it. I’m sure I’m in the minority with my opinion on Sadie Smile

sibbys · 20/05/2021 21:04

Both are nice Daffodil

3CCC · 20/05/2021 18:37

Cleo. I really like it

I'm not keen on Sadie at all

Serpenta · 20/05/2021 14:57

Cleo is a gorgeous name.

Sadie is okay.

LaLaLouella · 20/05/2021 14:53

Both lovely names but....

As someone with a bit of a lisp Sadie would have been a nightmare name for me!

countydown1989 · 20/05/2021 14:51

@countydown1989

My daughter is called Sadie and I have noticed it definitely depends on the local accent. We loved Marianna but the way it would be pronounced by my husband's family put us off it!
Sorry, this was in response to cbeebiesrehab in regards to it sounding brassy and harsh.

My daughter is called Sadie :-)
A little vintage, a little sassy, definitely cool.

I found it on a list of 1890s names, but it feels modern too.

dohdohdoh · 20/05/2021 14:36

Cleo reminds me of Renault Clio, sorry.

Sadie much better. I've never heard of the song people mention.

DungeonKeeper · 20/05/2021 14:06

Cleo.

Sauvignonblanket · 20/05/2021 13:57

Sadie

TempsPerdu · 20/05/2021 11:53

Just checked for you OP and in 2019 Cleo was #191 in England and Wales and Sadie was #142 so (assuming you’re based here) Sadie is actually more popular.

Cbeebiesrehab · 20/05/2021 11:52

100% Cleo. Lovely, unusual, short, easy for her to learn to write :)

Really dislike Sadie, sounds very harsh and brassy to me, although I’m sure I’m in the minority.

StevieNix · 20/05/2021 11:51

Love both and they’re both on my list!
I think Cleo slightly wins in my opinion though

TempsPerdu · 20/05/2021 11:49

Cleo - lovely and feels more substantial.

We shortlisted it for DD but like others were ultimately put off by the Renault thing (especially as I personally prefer the Clio spelling!) It seems to be better used now though so probably less of an issue.

SteveArnottsCodeine · 20/05/2021 11:46

Cleo makes me think of cats and Cleopatra the Egyptian Queen. Oh and 90s girl band Cleopatra. Go with Sadie.

Bibidy · 20/05/2021 11:42

I would go Sadie. Cleo is lovely but has definitely picked up in popularity lately so you might find she is one of a few Cleo's in her year at school (if that bothers you).

OopsUp · 20/05/2021 11:40

Like Cleo but wouldn't use it because it makes me think of cars.

Love Sadie and it was list.
