Melissa and Marissa are both nicer than Malissa IMO. The 'malice' sound in Malissa puts me off.

Marisa (mah-ree-sa) is also nice.

Tal45 · 20/05/2021 10:06

Mal is bad in French - that's what it makes me think of.

Norked · 20/05/2021 09:45

I don't like the name Melissa....and definitely not with that spelling having to correct people all the time.

Gemma2019 · 20/05/2021 09:37

It's a decent Greek name and would be fine if it wasn't so close to the name Melissa. I wouldn't go for it if you are in the UK as it would get too annoying having to correct people all the time.

Spied · 20/05/2021 09:34

Oh, it's awful.

Marlena1 · 20/05/2021 09:30

I quite like Melissa.

riotlady · 19/05/2021 23:05

Melissa is fine, Malissa is awful

Bumblebee1980a · 19/05/2021 23:05

I don't like it. Sorry!

Luckingfovely · 19/05/2021 22:59

I like Marisa as mentioned above, and how about Marina?

Luckingfovely · 19/05/2021 22:58

Malissa is not a name, and sounds evil. Please don't.

What else is on your list?

ElizabethTudor · 19/05/2021 22:50

Lifetime of misspellings, having to correct people, send important things back (ie bank cards) cos they’re wrong.
So for me it’s a big fat no.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/05/2021 22:48

It's awful. So is Melissa.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/05/2021 22:44

Melissa is nice (maybe slightly 70's/80's but a pretty name), and in some accents could sound a bit like "Malissa". But I would still spell it as the traditional Melissa, otherwise it will just cause confusion.

The Italian/Spanish Marisa/Marissa as pp's suggested is also very pretty (and possibly has a nice "sea" meaning - as does similar Shakespearean Nerissa).

partyatthepalace · 19/05/2021 21:51

Everyone will spell it Melissa. Other than that it’s OK, although dated, 80s, and a bit nothing. Also quite high likelihood she’ll get called Mel which is dull as ditchwater.

FredaFox · 19/05/2021 18:18

Looks like a typo for Melissa which is a bit meh, sorry

Is it a real name from another country maybe?

DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2021 18:17

Melissa is very pretty and has a nice meaning.

Malissa isn't good, sorry.

feckwit · 19/05/2021 18:17

Love Melissa but not Malissa

TheDaydreamBelievers · 19/05/2021 18:17

Malissa looks misspelt or made up. Also, in most Latin languages "mal" means bad (which is why we have words like Malodourous, malice, malfeasance etc). Marissa is nice, Melissa is a bit out of date

FelicityPike · 19/05/2021 18:15

No, Melissa is passable.

IslandLulu · 19/05/2021 18:13

It's not a great name

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2021 18:10

Melissa is nice. Malissa sounds too much like Malice

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/05/2021 18:08

I think the Mal sound is unfortunate, its too negative for me.

Amdone123 · 19/05/2021 18:05

Marissa is lovely.

CellyBee · 19/05/2021 17:39

Nope!!

SleepingStandingUp · 19/05/2021 17:37

Agree Melissa or Marissa, Marissa is just a lifetime of corrections
