Baby girl's name starting with F

My sister is pregnant again and I'm trying to find nice baby names for her. She likes short names and ideally the name starts with F :) Thank you Smile

Thanks everyone for their suggestions also on behalf of my sister 🤗 my sister favourites Freya, which I also really like (along with Faye and Felicity, but that's definitely too long for my sister) Smile

You want to get yourself an OED, Kirsten. Much more comprehensive.

Of course all this is academic until OP returns and confirms whether she wants the initial ‘F’ or simply a name starting with a voiceless labiodental fricative consonant Grin

KirstenBlest · 20/05/2021 13:01

@ZoyaTheDestroyer, you are quite correct. Here's the Collins dictionary's definition.

Definition of 'F'
F
also f (ef) (plural F's, f's)

  1. VARIABLE NOUN
F is the sixth letter of the English alphabet.
  1. VARIABLE NOUN
In music, F is the fourth note in the scale of C major.

I like Florrie - as pp mentioned it could be short for Florence to give her more options as she grows up.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/05/2021 12:49

F is a letter and a sound.

KirstenBlest · 20/05/2021 12:46

@ZoyaTheDestroyer,
"and ideally the name starts with F".
I posted before Phoebe was mentioned.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/05/2021 12:41

OP didn’t specify it had to start with the letter F. She could have meant the sound, in which case Ffion is a legitimate suggestion. I don’t see anyone picking up Phoebe with similar levels of pedantry.

KirstenBlest · 20/05/2021 11:56

@Cowbells, Ff sounds like F, but it isn't two Fs.
F is pronounced V. For example, Falmai is pronounced VAL-my (my as in not yours) - it's a pretty name.

Cowbells · 20/05/2021 11:40

@CaffiSaliMali

As Kirsten says, there is no letter F in Ffion which starts with the letter Ff, which is a Welsh letter. It is a nice name though but is definitely 4 letters long, not 5.

Freya is lovely and so is Fay/Faye.

Is the Welsh letter Ff not pronounced 'f'?

Felicity
Fiona
Fearn

pinkmagnolias · 19/05/2021 19:31

Francesca or Felicity are my favourites.

Ffion is nice too.

Not a fan of Freya, Florence as their popularity rose too quickly and I don't think they are nice sounding names. Don't like Fiona either for different reasons.

@itsalltrue22, Ffion doesn't start with F. It starts with Ff, a separate letter in Welsh.
