Hi all,

I’ve just found out I’m having a baby boy, so I’d love some more modern sounding baby names suggestions. The reason I say modern is my family are white British so are very hostile to anything ‘too exotic’ (for want of a better phrase). My hubby’s family is quite large so a lot of names have been taken:

Already gone is zakariya, ali, Harris, kamran, zaid, zayn, zayyan, isa, musa (and about a million others)

So far we like: Deen, Aydin /Aiden and Rayan.

Any other suggestions? We already have girl named Ayah XX

It is permitted, but would you want to call your innocent baby Binyamin currently? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Adam
Isa
Noah
Yusuf
Daud
Solomon
Yahya
Musa

Would any of those work for you?

I would assume Benjamin as in ‘Netanyahu’ wouldn’t be a top choice.

David/Navid and John (and variations) are supposedly ok (so is Jesus in one site I saw - you can bet both sides of the family would not react well that that one!).

@TuesdayRuby don’t think I’ll run it pass the in laws lol, they don’t even know yet and it will be controlling to the max. Same with my family. Talk about a rock and a hard place! Lol

Benjamin would be Binyamin for the Muslim version, he was Yusuf (as) little brother.

wishing3 · 17/05/2021 15:23

Gah-ADIL

wishing3 · 17/05/2021 15:23

Adult? Or sure if that’s modern sounding or not!

Normaigai · 17/05/2021 15:19

Sami?

Puntastic · 17/05/2021 15:15

Benjamin should be permissible I think- I've definitely known Muslim Benjamins.

Robiul (could shorten to Robbie)?

TuesdayRuby · 17/05/2021 15:08

@Sleeplessemma I think it’s one of those names where either version works. I know a little Isaac in a Muslim family. If you like it you could always run it past your in-laws, see if it makes the cut! Grin

Sleeplessemma · 17/05/2021 15:02

@wawawawawa thank you for the ideas! I love Tobias but I’m not sure it’s a Muslim name. I’ve also read that Benyamin isn’t a permissible name.

@TuesdayRuby isn’t the Muslim version ishaq? X
