Hi all,

I’ve just found out I’m having a baby boy, so I’d love some more modern sounding baby names suggestions. The reason I say modern is my family are white British so are very hostile to anything ‘too exotic’ (for want of a better phrase). My hubby’s family is quite large so a lot of names have been taken:

Already gone is zakariya, ali, Harris, kamran, zaid, zayn, zayyan, isa, musa (and about a million others)

So far we like: Deen, Aydin /Aiden and Rayan.

Any other suggestions? We already have girl named Ayah XX

Radical thought, but could you pick a name you both like without deference to either set of grandparents?

You'll perhaps get some grief, but does it really matter that much? Just say that's the name you're going with- eventually they'll accept it.

@Sleeplessemma

Thanks all! A lot to think about! Unfortunately a lot of the names are already taken by either immediate family or friends children.

I saw some suggestion for Khalil, that’s taken, zafer (taken) Adam ( know someone bad memories lol) I don’t like the sound of the Islamic equivalent of Noah (Nuh) and I’d get no end of crap for using the ‘English’ name.

Our families are very similar (albeit opposite versions of each other) anything too british or ‘white’ his family would have a meltdown over same with anything too muslim for mine.

His family at first didn’t even believe Ayah was a Muslim name, they were adamant we changed it Anaya or something more Pakistani 😑

Seriously they’ve never heard of Ayah? So what do they call Quranic verses then?

How about
Idris
Khalid
Fahim
Ismael
Yunus
Ali
Abdul

Aiyan or Aryan? Do names need to be off the table because of family though. DC aren't from a Muslim background but from one where similarly they often name family members the same. Having a relative named something the same would be the norm

The two loveliest Muslim men I know are both called Samar! There are a couple of boys named Idris at DD's nursery, which is nice and has the idris Elba familiarity.

Kids at my DD's nursery whose names are Muslim include:
Ishaq (iss-hack not ish-ack)
Ilyas
Adam
Reshaad (there are two, one is nn Shardy which is really cute!)
Rayan
Haaris
Laith

Samad, Sahil, Amin. It is a shame Zayn is out, I love it.

Ammar, it means someone who brings life back to a place or a builder.
Good luck to you. I was in your position not so long ago and it's not easy to find a name that fits between the two cultures.
