Modern sounding Muslim baby boy names please :)

Hi all,

I’ve just found out I’m having a baby boy, so I’d love some more modern sounding baby names suggestions. The reason I say modern is my family are white British so are very hostile to anything ‘too exotic’ (for want of a better phrase). My hubby’s family is quite large so a lot of names have been taken:

Already gone is zakariya, ali, Harris, kamran, zaid, zayn, zayyan, isa, musa (and about a million others)

So far we like: Deen, Aydin /Aiden and Rayan.

Any other suggestions? We already have girl named Ayah XX

Thank you all so much for commenting! Flowers

We do use English middle names, a nice way to placate my mum as my daughter has a very Muslim yet easily pronounced name- we went with my grandmas name. This time I think we’ll use my dad’s name as a middle name! This definitely helps!

So many of the names are taken, it’s the problem with such a large family lol! Our top pics right now are Aiden, Rayan, Dean, Asher and Elias- watch both sides hate the names lol.

We thought about Idris too, but I have a bit of a crush on Idris Elba so probably best to avoid lol.

Ps @BabiSiarc I absolutely love the name Cassia! Xx

I came on to suggest Idris which is both an Arabic and British (well, Welsh) name.

Might it keep both sides happy? Are you using middle names? Could you use a muslim first name and a british middle name?

Ultimately though it's none of your family's business what you call your child, nor is it any of his family's business.

I sympathise because I'm Welsh and DH English, my family will be upset if we don't use a Welsh name and his family will be upset if we use a Welsh name or anything which isn't very traditional and/or biblical, like Elizabeth.

Very tempting to pick a name like Cassia which both sides will hate equally and use the middle name/s to reflect respective heritages!

Otherwise we will look at names which work well in both cultures, like Tomos and Betsi.

The only thing which matters is that both you and DH like the name. Don't let either set of parents bother you into changing the name or using a name you don't love.

We had a baby boy recently and struggled to find a name. We finally agreed on Izhaan (pronounced iz-aan or Iz-an by our English friends)

Love the names you've picked out but don't try and please the families, please yourselves. If there's one particular name you both like then go for it.

They got their heads round you both marrying each other, they'll get over any name too.

DS1 is at school with
Yaqub, Ayan, Zaydan.

They're only 4/5 so assume fairly modern names as not the Muslim names in the generation that I grew up with Yusuf/Ali/Adnan etc.

@Puntastic

By the sounds of it, you bent over backwards to accommodate both lots of relatives last time and neither set was happy anyway, so this time maybe save yourselves the headache?
