Have a lovely 8 month old boy named eric.
Pregnant again hoping for a girl... BUT if its a boy i need an AWESOME name again. And every boy name is not sparking any joy besides ONE...

Pheonix

I KNOW..I KNOW.. Usually id be the FIRST one to be like "oh come on...you cant call a child that"

HOWEVER...Ive become enchanted with the name. Ive even tried considering felix and looking up ALL the names...
Ive even tried sleeping on it... for a MONTH.
And i cant find a name that gives me the same...feeling...as pheonix.

Does anyone have any POSITIVE thoughts on the name? Or advice?

We know of two little boys called Phoenix. The one we know best is a school friend of our son, and is an absolutely normal, polite, well behaved 8 year old. To be honest, I never really thought of it as being particularly unusual or out there. His parents aren’t particularly edgy or unusual. If you love it, use it.

The name is fine (although I would assume it's a girl) but I am not sure it goes with Eric.

Mangofandangoo · 15/05/2021 22:34

I actually know a Phoenix and I think her name is lovely - she's 11

ZednotZee · 15/05/2021 22:32

Husband is a teacher and says when they get the list of new pupils joining the school, they can tell who will be trouble - Phoenix would def be on that list.

Your husband is a bellend and you can't trust yourself to spell definitely correctly.

Not reading Grin

One of my neighbours has a kid called Phoenix - the other is called Storm.

She's a reading hippy though so it's not off the chart for her. Depends what your other kids are called?

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 15/05/2021 22:27

I know a man in his 40s who changed his name to Phoenix-Severus last year. He's a posturing bellend.

I think we could tell from his choice of hyphenated name.

@wildeverose - no less horrible than you telling the pp her husband shouldn't be teacher. It isn't setting them up to fail at all.

lucie8881 · 15/05/2021 22:22

A friend of mine has named her son Phoenix, so it doesn't sound that "out there" to my ears. If you like it, go for it!

Hyacinth88 · 15/05/2021 22:22

If you like it. Use it
I know a phoenix lovely little boy.
What about Griffin

Phoenix really, really isn't a great name. Felix has a very similar sound, would that be an option? Eric and Felix works far better than Eric and Phoenix.

Your husband shouldn't be a teacher. What a horrible thing to say. Setting children up to fail over a name? He's in the wrong job.

It's Mel B's I think. Unless they both have used the name.

You're correct: her daughter's name is Phoenix Chi. (I have no idea why I know that but I do.)

Yes, I'm so sure they can magically tell. Perhaps having preconceived notions about a child is the real problem.

Saltyslug · 15/05/2021 22:14

Felix and Eric are very cool together

ZednotZee · 15/05/2021 22:12

I think Phoenix and Eric sounds like a cool clothing brand.

I like it.

ThatIsMyPotato · 15/05/2021 22:12

Mel C’s daughter is called Phoenix.

Maybe they should try not to have preconceived perceptions in case they become a self-fufilling prophecy.
lovelylittlesunflower · 15/05/2021 22:06

I know a kid Phoenix, it's a beautiful name and really suits him.

MsMcGonagall · 15/05/2021 22:02

What about Finn. Sort of has the same sound as the first syllable.

EvilOnion · 15/05/2021 22:00

I know a female Phoenix.

It's not the worst or the craziest name I've heard by far but I do think it's a very odd sibling pairing.

We know a family with a plain name DC1 and then a bit of an "out there" #2. Always strikes me that they wanted their #2 to stand out whilst #1 just blends in.

MsMcGonagall · 15/05/2021 21:59

Eric and Felix would be fine

Phoenix I think you need to leave that one unused. I really LOVE the name Dmitri but I did not even consider lumbering DS with it. Not even as a middle name

user1493494961 · 15/05/2021 21:56

I'd go with something easier that you can spell.
