Have a lovely 8 month old boy named eric.
Pregnant again hoping for a girl... BUT if its a boy i need an AWESOME name again. And every boy name is not sparking any joy besides ONE...

Pheonix

I KNOW..I KNOW.. Usually id be the FIRST one to be like "oh come on...you cant call a child that"

HOWEVER...Ive become enchanted with the name. Ive even tried considering felix and looking up ALL the names...
Ive even tried sleeping on it... for a MONTH.
And i cant find a name that gives me the same...feeling...as pheonix.

Does anyone have any POSITIVE thoughts on the name? Or advice?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Phoenix is a lovely name but if you're going to struggle to spell it, Felix is a nice alternative and goes well with Eric. It means 'happy' too, which is nice. Both Phoenix and Felix were on our list and I don't think they are too 'out there'. They are unusual, but familiar.

RickOShay · 16/05/2021 08:16

@Misssweetheart
I think it’s a great name. I like it.
Doesn’t matter if it matches with Eric.
They are both cool names.
Congratulations Smile

AnoDeLosMuertos · 16/05/2021 08:12

Phoenix is an extremely try hard name.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/05/2021 08:11

I like it.

It doesn’t go with Eric though. If that, doesn’t matter to you then go for it.

Jesusmaryjosephandthecamel · 16/05/2021 08:07

@Standrewsschool

Mel C’s daughter is called Phoenix.
I wouldn’t use a name that you can’t spell.

@Standrewsschool her daughter is called Scarlett.

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/05/2021 07:51

It's not one I would ever use but it's not the worst I've heard.

My main issue is that Eric and Phoenix sound odd together as names. I'm not a fan of matching names at all but as these are so different it's like you decided you now didn't like names like Eric. I know that sounds daft, my head is full of crap like this.

RosaBaby2 · 16/05/2021 07:48

What about Falco?

Elwynne · 16/05/2021 07:46

Eric and Magnus = perfect combo

Iloveyou3x · 16/05/2021 07:45

I like it. And I looove Eric.

Hallyup6 · 16/05/2021 07:40

Eric is an old man name. You need something to go with that. Phoenix is bloody awful and definitely doesn't go with Eric.

northstars · 16/05/2021 07:39

I actually know 2 little boys (age 5) at my son’s school. One is half Chinese and so the name makes a bit more sense. The other seems a more “trendy” choice by (very much not Chinese) parents.

nancywhitehead · 16/05/2021 07:36

I think your typo indicates one of the main problems with the name - many people can't spell Phoenix and will get the vowels mixed up.

However other than that there's nothing wrong with it, I think it's quite cool!

luciles · 16/05/2021 07:35

@Marilla27

You don't think it sounds too much like penis?

Please don't call your son Felix. It is a cat's name. We have three cats around here called that.

What about Evan? Similar to Eric, no?

God, honestly how long did you have to sit and think about that to try and make a dig. Sounds nothing like penis whatsoever.
Hermanfromguesswho · 16/05/2021 07:33

It’s VERY different to Eric.
I’d go for something along the same lines as Eric that aren’t too common such as Douglas, Gregory, Jeremy, Keith?

Bluntness100 · 16/05/2021 07:25

Phoenix sounds nothing like penis. Confused

BitOfAFaff · 16/05/2021 07:21

It's not a cats name 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Whenever 'Luna' is suggested people say it's a dogs name. No it's a human name people decide to call their pets.

We have Daisy the cat doesn't mean Daisy is a cats name!

UpTheJunktion · 16/05/2021 07:13

I know several kids and teens and adults called Felix.
And no cats.
Not predominantly a cats name at all.

UpTheJunktion · 16/05/2021 07:09

I like Stanley and Reggie with Eric.

Or maybe other Anglo Saxon type names.

Phoenix is fine, bit ‘child of 90s rock or film star’.

RAOK · 16/05/2021 06:56

Arthur goes well with Eric. I was thinking Cassius too.

ThatIsMyPotato · 16/05/2021 06:39

I think there'll be more Phoenixs and Hopes and things like that due to the coronavirus.

Anyway I like it and think it goes well with Eric now I've said it a few times. It's nice not to have a name theme as they are individuals and Eric is fairly unusual so it's not like you've got an Oliver

grapewine · 16/05/2021 02:22

I like Phoenix but it seems out of place next to Eric. What about Phillip? Maybe that's too boring though.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/05/2021 02:16

Nothing positive to say about Phoenix as a first name, sorry - but I think it could be a fun "wacky" middle name. I love Eric though - both Scandi and retro cool.

Names that are similar to Eric imo - Carl, Alfred, Oscar, August, Lars, Magnus. But Felix is great too.

mabelmint · 16/05/2021 00:16

I know a Phoenix - also had an elder sibling with a more traditional name which makes it feel out of place.

SusannahSophia · 16/05/2021 00:02

I met a sweet little girl called Phoenix. It was a big name for a shy and retiring child, though.

Mandalay246 · 15/05/2021 23:51

There is nothing wrong with the name - but please spell it correctly, it's unfair to the child not to.
