Have a lovely 8 month old boy named eric.
Pregnant again hoping for a girl... BUT if its a boy i need an AWESOME name again. And every boy name is not sparking any joy besides ONE...

Pheonix

I KNOW..I KNOW.. Usually id be the FIRST one to be like "oh come on...you cant call a child that"

HOWEVER...Ive become enchanted with the name. Ive even tried considering felix and looking up ALL the names...
Ive even tried sleeping on it... for a MONTH.
And i cant find a name that gives me the same...feeling...as pheonix.

Does anyone have any POSITIVE thoughts on the name? Or advice?

Phoenix sounds like Eric's alter ego or an human/pet adventure duo. They are so far different it sounds ridiculous tbh. Agree Felix could be a better option.

BunnyRuddington · 20/07/2021 21:55

There was a little boy at my son's nursery called Feonix

We sometimes get letters or emails at work where everything is written as it sounds.

If I saw this I'd just assume the parents were pretty illiterate.

Mumvschildren · 20/07/2021 21:12

Oddly enough I met a little boy called Phoenix last week at work
Even more oddly his brother was called Adam and his sister Isabella!
It was like they ran out of ‘normal’ names and just went far out

Mum was pregnant and said she was going to call baby Lexie-Mai

I’m not a fan but it’s your baby-I went with a marmite name with one of mine and he really suits it and loves his name

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/07/2021 20:49

I taught a lovely boy called Phoenix.

Candyapple49 · 20/07/2021 20:36

I teach a sixteen year old girl called Phoenix and it has really grown on me . It doesn’t matter that it doesn’t ‘go with’ Eric . It’s only a tiny percentage of their life that they will be introduced as a pair of siblings . There is a Phoenix (5) in the same class as my son and she has a brother called James . Never crossed my mind that it is odd .

timetochangeagainforever · 20/07/2021 20:18

My close friend has a Phoenix - he's a lovely 11yr old now and I've always loved his name - go for it

SeanChailleach · 16/05/2021 20:45

I love this name Phoenix!
Eric the Viking and Phoenix of Carthage ... Now I am trying to think up some names for siblings on a historic sea-faring theme.
If I saw Phoenix (or Eric) on my class list, my first thought would be that they make a change from James and Alexander.

What about Fenton or Fintan?
However I can’t see anything wrong with either a Phoenix or Felix but I dislike Arthur which I find stuffy

PineappleDreamer · 16/05/2021 18:12

There was a little boy at my son's nursery called Feonix. Some people shouldn't be allowed to name dogs, let alone children

Anyway I don't like Phoenix. It's a harsh sound, it's a name that leads to immediate judgements from some people and it sounds like someone who'd hang out with Axl Rose

Iloveitall · 16/05/2021 18:03

@wtheck

One of my neighbours has a kid called Phoenix - the other is called Storm.

She's a reading hippy though so it's not off the chart for her. Depends what your other kids are called?

Do you live in a town beginning with E?
flaminjo · 16/05/2021 14:00

I know somebody with a baby Phoenix

Chav

timetochangeagainforever · 16/05/2021 11:17

My oldest friends son has that name and he's now 12. It's lovely.

donquixotedelamancha · 16/05/2021 11:14

bird names are getting popular so I don't think it will seem too "crazy"

This is true, it's getting very avian when I read my register out:

Smew- here
Swallow- here
Loon- here
Thrush - here
Shag - here
Dickcissel - here
Boobies....... boobies, has anyone seen boobies?
Sky-tyrant - here
Drongo....Drongo that's you- uh, here.
Scrub- here

There is one little Bustard who walks in late every day.

Enko · 16/05/2021 11:07

I like Phoenix I knew a woman once who had sons Phoenix and Griffin I loved both names. If you like it go for it

Flymetothestars · 16/05/2021 10:26

I'd stick with Phoenix
If not how about Felix

Flymetothestars · 16/05/2021 10:26

Phoenix really isn't that out there these days.
I wouldn't bat at eyelid at meeting a Phoenix

A baby name like Jeffrey Nigel or Gary in 2021 I'd be way more shocked by

Branleuse · 16/05/2021 09:56

Ive known about 3 kids called Phoenix. Its not particularly crazy. If you like the name, then go for it. I like it. Why do boys always have to have boring names, and girls are more often allowed to have unusual ones

JemimaJoy · 16/05/2021 09:53

You can't have an Erin and a Phoenix! That would be like having... Idk. Jane and Desdemona or... Anne and Lexi-Mai or something. Totally different feels to the point where it seems a bit sort of amusing. Felix is lovely and goes perfectly.

MrsHInch · 16/05/2021 09:50

Bit of a word association with Phoenix, but stay with me....

Eric & Guy?

Guy Fawkes.

Fawkes was the phoenix in Harry Potter? 🤷‍♀️

RoseMartha · 16/05/2021 09:36

I think it goes okay with another out there name. Does not particularly go well with Eric.

Either use it as a middle name or go with something sounding similar.

Other ideas (none of which I would choose personally but everyone has different tastes and ideas.

Felix
Atticus
Cassius
Lysander
Jasper

MercyBodle · 16/05/2021 09:30

I like Phoenix but like some pps I think it's a very odd name to have next to Eric. I don't think names have to match, but they do need to at least come from the same universe! Keep looking, and maybe use Phoenix for a middle name.

Nuggetnugget · 16/05/2021 09:18

I don't like Phoenix as a name. It's try hard.
Eric and Felix as suggested sounds great.

Eric and Max
Eric and Henry
Josh

custardbear · 16/05/2021 09:02

Goes in the same bag for me as Bear, Fox, Wolf, Chardonnay, Sunshine, Luna, Nevaeh

woodfort · 16/05/2021 08:56

Why do you NEED to have a name that sparks joy?

Couldn’t it just be a name that you like and that you think will be a good name for your son to to carry with him for life?

A Phoenix might love his name .. but he might also be very embarrassed about it when he doesn’t turn into the kind of person you think of when you think of Phoenix. For me I probably imagine some kind of drummer or guitarist, thinks he’s quite cool. He might be nothing like that.
