What do you think about this name for a little boy?

Lovely.

partyatthepalace · 14/05/2021 21:20

Am not wild about it, but suspect it is coming back along with Ernest and Jean. Etc

Mol1628 · 14/05/2021 21:19

I love it. Clicked on this because my friend has a Lionel! He’s one now :)

Straysocks · 14/05/2021 21:16

Absolutely lovely

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/05/2021 21:14

Lionel Rowan sounds lovely. I'd definitely pair a more vintage/retro first name like Lionel with a more popular/contemporary middle name - and Rowan is that (plus has beautiful nature vibes).

Mugsen · 14/05/2021 20:56

Lionell Mitchell Brown

summerhillgang · 14/05/2021 20:25

So happy it's liked 😊 DH is warming up to it.

Any suggestions on middle names to go with it? Surname begins with B

Lionel Lachlan
Lionel Rowan
Lionel Eden
Lionel Atlas
Lionel Forrest

I like earth/nature inspired names.

As if. That song is 40 years old.

I agree. Kids today are more likely to know Lionel Messi.

Serpenta · 14/05/2021 20:07

There's a flooring company in Dublin called Lino Richie

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/05/2021 20:07

David Baddiel's middle name is Lionel. He once mentioned that LL Cool J's full name is actually Lionel Lionel Cool J Grin

denverRegina · 14/05/2021 20:03

"Is it me you are looking for?

Your son will hear that joke millions of time over"

As if. That song is 40 years old.

OP not Lachlan or Forrest. Go with Lionel, it's lovely.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/05/2021 20:02

It's okay - very retro but quite patrician sounding (I suspect that if he's shy/wants to fit in once at school he'll end up going by Leo though).

If you like the Knights I think Gawain, Geraint or maybe even Gareth feel a bit less vintage (because no associations with older celebs like Blair or Richie).

Mayvis · 14/05/2021 19:42

It’s not a name I’d ever suggest but I actually think it’s really nice. Different without being wacky.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/05/2021 19:34

I like it - it doesn't strike me as a strange or controversial choice.

inmyslippers · 14/05/2021 19:34

I love it

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 14/05/2021 19:33

I like it, feels like it's time is right!

ThatIsMyPotato · 14/05/2021 19:33

Ooh I like it! Great choice!

Chilldonaldchill · 14/05/2021 19:32

I was going to say I think of Messi but maybe because it's so much nicer pronounced the European way. A bit like Genevieve - I don't like it with the English pronunciation.

Ikeameatballs · 14/05/2021 19:28

I love it! Go for it.

Serpenta · 14/05/2021 19:27

Actually I can imagine it having a resurgence due to Lionel Messi. Although I know he pronounces his name lee-onel

JorisBonson · 14/05/2021 19:23

I had a cat called Lionel.

Serpenta · 14/05/2021 19:23

Baby Lionel would be born wearing a cravat and a smoking jacket and purring 'well hellooooo, ladies' to the medical staff.

But I think I'd be charmed to meet a little boy with that name. Smile

Orphlids · 14/05/2021 19:22

Ooh, I wasn’t sure when I spotted your title, but now I’ve read the thread and thought about it, I say yes! I think I’d be delighted to meet a little Lionel. You’re right about the sound of it, it really is very pleasant. I can’t imagine a horrible Lionel either. I imagine a kind, gentle and rather studious little fellow, a thoroughly decent little chap.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 14/05/2021 19:20

My first thought is Blair I have to say!

I'm not keen.

Thedogscollar · 14/05/2021 19:18

Love LachlanSmile
Lionel sounds like an old man. I just can't imagine a newborn called Lionel.
