Please tell me what you think of the names Lyra and Luna?
How do they sound with brothers name; Noah and Lyra? Noah and Luna?

Thank you.

I don't like either.

My eye just sees 'Lycra'
and my ear hears "Loon", as in "you loony" / twit / daft git sort of put down.

pattyparsnip · 14/05/2021 15:51

Yes I know of dogs with these names . I do like Lyra though.

rooarsome · 14/05/2021 15:50

Lyra is beautiful and rolls off the tongue. I'm not really a fan of Luna.

Tinselandlights · 14/05/2021 15:48

I LOVE Lyra.

Luna is nice but Lyra has a bit more spirit, and there is an awesome Kate Bush song called Lyra!

Chilldonaldchill · 14/05/2021 15:46

Sorry Luna not Like!

Chilldonaldchill · 14/05/2021 15:45

I like them both.
All the Lyras and Lunas I know are completely beautiful (and really lovely too).
I think both sound fine with Noah but Like probably edges it slightly for me.

stickygotstuck · 14/05/2021 15:34

They are both lovely, and I don't think there is much between them.

Have your chosen them for their literally references, their meaning?
(BTW Hmm at people saying names are chavvy. People maybe, but names?)

FWIW, I don't think names need to 'go' with each other. Not sure I understand the logic, really.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/05/2021 15:30

Lyra makes an ugly sound to my ear. Luna is mega popular and works best on kittens and puppies. Neither sit well with Noah.

20viona · 14/05/2021 15:04

Lyra

bubblebath62636 · 14/05/2021 15:01

Lyra sounds awufl- is it even a real name?

Luna is ok but quite chavvy.

saraclara · 14/05/2021 14:59

Sorry. Both are too obviously trendy and book/film/TV related. And now others have mentioned it, yep, unfortunately close to other words.

Chunkymenrock · 14/05/2021 14:56

I really dislike them both. Lycra and Loony.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 14/05/2021 14:44

Luna is a dog's name.
Lyra is much cooler & nicer.

mn81987 · 14/05/2021 14:43

I know 6 dogs with these names

partyatthepalace · 14/05/2021 14:40

I really like Lyra. I really dislike Luna (too close to loony), both ok with Noah.

However, I wouldn’t use either because they part of the v popular Lara/Lola/Lila/Lyra/Luna/Lily trend and they all blend into each other.

Is there anything else you like? Otherwise Lois is nice and sounds a bit different

KateL31 · 14/05/2021 13:35

I like them both! Especially Lyra though - beautiful!

ILoveShula · 14/05/2021 13:09

Don't like them. Too many similar names like Lily, Lila, Lara, Lola, Layla, Lena, Leah. Both a bit too His Dark Material/Harry Potter.

BilboBercow · 14/05/2021 12:23

Honestly? Dog names

Arcadia · 14/05/2021 12:21

Ditto I know several dogs called Luna. I like Lyra.

RuthW · 14/05/2021 12:17

Love Luna. Dislike Lyra. Both ok with Noah.

Pammy39 · 14/05/2021 12:13

I prefer Luna

FolornLawn · 14/05/2021 11:13

Are you pronouncing it L-eye-ra like His Dark Materials? Or L-ee-ra like Lyra McKee?

I prefer either of those to Luna.

MoonCatcher · 14/05/2021 11:12

Luna is a cat's name.
Lyra is nice. Not sure what you mean by "going with" Noah, but it certainly doesn't clash (like if you named a boy John and the girl Anastasia for example)

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 14/05/2021 11:11

I love them both, but Lyra edges it because its not as popular as Luna. We have Lyra on our list too!

paralysedbyinertia · 14/05/2021 11:10

Lyra is much nicer, I think.
