For a girl. Tell me your honest thoughts please, I am bracing myself!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AnotherSunrise · 14/05/2021 01:24

Noooooooooo!

Boomclaps · 14/05/2021 01:12

I know of siblings called rufus(m) hero(m) and tiger(f) and they have an imminent sibling due anytime. Bunch of absolute gorgeousness.
Go for it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/05/2021 00:58

Love it (on a girl). Very classy sounding, but I must admit wouldn't be brave enough in the first name spot - I'd be concerned that she might be the shy sort and could be uncomfortable with standing out. At least in the middle name spot, she could more easily choose to be known as Hero or not.

lakesidelife · 13/05/2021 22:47

Thinking more about the name I remember a dc at my dc's nursery was called it.
It didn't cause any comments at the time and that was in Yorkshire, so OP's dc should be safe enough.

TrickyBiscuits · 13/05/2021 21:52

I love it - it’s beautiful!

As an aside, Hero is the name of a flower in Kurdish and a fairly common woman’s name there.

starfire88 · 13/05/2021 21:50

I like it in theory, as I love the sound of it. I think it would be lovely on a girl. However, I feel like it could open to scrutiny by their peers. Also, I think it puts on a bit of pressure for the child to live up to that namesake, if that makes sense.

SouthOfFrance · 13/05/2021 21:46

Why will it be grim? Think of all the people you know with unusual names, have any of them been picked on more than the average child? No.

JaninaDuszejko · 13/05/2021 21:40

It's a lovely name and being able to separate the wheat from the chaff by people's response to her name is useful. And as the parent of 3DC with unusual names children are a lot less funny about names than adults these days. Kids just accept names, it's just men grown ups who try and make bad jokes.

Ohyesiam · 13/05/2021 21:37

Imaging how grim school will be for her. Please don’t.

Mollymalone123 · 13/05/2021 21:32

I understand why but your child will be teased and adults will think wtf -

CorianderBee · 13/05/2021 21:30

Love it!

countrypunk · 13/05/2021 21:26

I think it's beautiful. I'm also a huge fan of the play and the film.

I really don't think you should worry about what other people think. It's not like you're thinking of calling your daughter Arse-Monkey.

NigellasMicrowave · 13/05/2021 21:17

Love it.

autumnkate · 13/05/2021 21:16

I really really like it

MadeOfStarStuff · 13/05/2021 20:30

Absolutely awful! The vast majority of people will think of the English word rather than Shakespeare

CheshireCats · 13/05/2021 20:24

I love it. I would think Shakespearian, not the English word.

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2021 20:19

I love it.

Happycat1212 · 13/05/2021 19:53

That’s very true about names, I have a very ordinary name but when I was young kids still use to add things onto it to make fun of it

SouthOfFrance · 13/05/2021 19:28

People get teased about whatever name they have as far as I can see. You can be named something really ordinary & still have people sing a song to you about your name, or make up something unkind.

Nishky · 13/05/2021 19:20

I love it. Beautiful name

lightningpeach · 13/05/2021 19:19

God no

PiratePetespajamas · 13/05/2021 19:18

I love it and think you should go for it! I’m a right snob and wouldn’t care what anyone who didn’t know it was a literary name thought! Grin I’ve known one IRL - mid 40s, a lawyer. Suited her great, never caused any problems.

PineappleTart · 13/05/2021 19:16

It's such a big name to live up to

PattyPan · 13/05/2021 19:16

It’s a no from me. I actually read a book once where the father was a Shakespeare professor and named his daughters Beatrice and Hero and Hero got teased because of her name and hated it. It was a fiction book but I think that’s realistic!

SprayedWithDettol · 13/05/2021 19:15

My first thought was Hero Wantage too.
