Naming my daughter Atlas?

I’m really starting to love Atlas for a little girl. Originally this was our boy name, and I still love it for a boy too. Could we use it for either gender? Big sister is Aurora.
Aurora and Atlas as sisters?

Please don't do it, for the child's sake.

IslandLulu · 12/05/2021 23:17

@MrsDoctorDear has caught you out OP!

Don't you have some school homework to do, dear?

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 12/05/2021 23:13

So you give one DD a Disney name and call the other after a book of maps. Really unfair.

Cornishandproudofit · 12/05/2021 23:08

@MrsDoctorDear well spotted. Apparently one thread full of people all saying ‘no don’t do it!’ wasn’t enough....

This was on your other thread:

The other name we were thinking about is Aurora?

Are these make believe children?

CombatBarbie · 12/05/2021 21:48

I prefer Atlanta on a girl, Atlas sounds masculine

user1493494961 · 12/05/2021 21:37

To make it a bit more feminine she could have the nn Lassie.

Bimblybomeyelash · 12/05/2021 21:23

I actually prefer Atlas to Aurora! But I don’t think you can name one daughter a frilly ultra girly name like Aurora and then name the other Atlas. It will look like you wanted DC2 to be a boy!

inmyslippers · 12/05/2021 21:16

I love it as a pet name

Cornishandproudofit · 12/05/2021 21:16

I like it for a boy but definitely not for a girl

Annamaywong25 · 12/05/2021 21:06

WTAF?? Please don't do this to your baby girl.....

saraclara · 12/05/2021 20:58

Nope. Very very male, and paired with Aurora, it sounds even more macho.

Vallmo47 · 12/05/2021 20:53

I’m sorry it’s not for me either. Good luck.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 12/05/2021 20:51

Nope. Atlas is a big, burly bloke with a beard. Atalanta (not Atlanta - that’s a city in Georgia) works, though. Or Artemis.

KarmaNoMore · 12/05/2021 20:48

Too masculine, even for a little boy.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/05/2021 20:47

How about Gaia if you like Greek mythology? The personification of the earth itself and grandmother to Atlas.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/05/2021 20:34

No imo. Atlas is too associated with the (man in the) myth to use for a girl for me. I think it's lovely for an upper class boy though - or for a boy that lives in an area where unusual names are more the norm (otherwise I might be concerned about teasing). Would you consider the similar but feminine Artemis or Atalanta instead? Artemis and Aurora would make really a nice sibset imo. If not, maybe Iris or Athena?

annacondom · 12/05/2021 20:23

I love Artemis. Would go very well with Aurora. Atlas is awful, unless you're a book of maps.

Sadsiblingatsea · 12/05/2021 20:19

Not unless you want her to become a weightlifter.

purplecorkheart · 12/05/2021 20:19

Honestly not for me.

HideousKinky · 12/05/2021 20:06

Artemis?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/05/2021 20:03

What about Olympia or Alana or Xanthe or Aurora instead?

EssentialHummus · 12/05/2021 19:58

No, it’s a male name.

Weirdly when people ask about it on here for a boy it’s a resounding “Fuck no”, so it’s odd that this thread is so moderate imo. There are lots of lovely names from Greek mythology if you want to go that way.

DungeonKeeper · 12/05/2021 19:53

Nope. Would you want to be called Atlas? Try being called that and see what reactions you get.

daisypond · 12/05/2021 17:31

Just no.
