Violet or Felicity?

Opinions welcome! I really like both - Violet is quite popular these days but Felicity is maybe a bit posh. Not sure if it’s a boy or girl yet but preparing!

We have just named our baby Felicity Smile

When I told my mom, she did comment that it was posh Grin

daisypond · 12/05/2021 22:08

Felicity.
Violets are weeds that you do your best to kill off. The association is entirely negative to me.

Catmuffin · 12/05/2021 21:35

I much prefer Violet

Happymum12345 · 12/05/2021 21:33

Felicity

RaisinFlapjack · 12/05/2021 21:19

Felicity was the girls name I never used (having had two DS) so it gets my vote.

Cornishandproudofit · 12/05/2021 21:14

Violet

MangosteenSoda · 12/05/2021 21:11

I love Felicity! I probably wouldn’t use a nn, but think Feli is ok. It’s often used as a nn for Felicia in Germany and would work for Felicity too.

Violet is nice too.

chesirecat99 · 12/05/2021 20:23

@Happycat1212

The worst nn for felicity is flick 🤢
No, the worst nn for Felicity is Flea.

I'm surprised by people saying it is an 80s name. It had a brief spell of popularity in the 70s/80s but it was nowhere near as popular as it is now. It's never been in the top 100 names before.

lottiegarbanzo · 12/05/2021 20:06

Felicity by a long way.

Violet seems nice until you say it out loud and can be badly mangled by some accents.

MuddySocks · 12/05/2021 20:02

My very good friend has just had a baby girl and called her Felicity ❤️

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/05/2021 19:59

Violet!

espressoontap · 12/05/2021 19:55

I have a 7 month old Violet. It's a name I have loved for years and years. I don't know another Violet and I work with children. I know a couple of Felicity's

PlantMummy87 · 12/05/2021 19:51

My friend is called Felicity and always get comments about how lovely their name is and I love the meaning behind it of 'happiness'. They always get asked if they go by a nickname by always just go by Felicity, even when they were little.

I would personally definitely go with Felicity over Violet, it is a beautiful name.

mollyminniemo · 12/05/2021 19:27

Another HUGE vote for the beautiful Violet.
Such a lovely, sweet name on a girl and rather elegant but slightly boho on a lady.

Felicity is really bland and outdated. That’s why noone I know by this name EVER calls them self by anything resembling it eg. Fliss/ Flick/ Fizzy (all rather nauseating!) but so far removed from their actual name?!

sundowners · 12/05/2021 19:22

Such bizarre differing levels of taste here.
Funny you think that lemonsyellow as Violet to me is FAR prettier and classier than the brash Felicity. I just think of a secretary in the 80s when I hear that name. Its really really awful! Please dont do it OP!
Sick of hearing people bang on about names that sound like this or that if you change a few letters around.... if you added or removed a letter in most names you'd make something else.
I know a gorgeous 4 year old Violet, she gets nothing but compliments about her name and suits it absolutely perfectly.

Ceepeee · 12/05/2021 18:17

I see and think violent when I read Violet. The flower is lovely but easily spoken as Vi-luh which again puts me off.
I think Felicity is much nicer. I like that it means happiness.

lemonsyellow · 12/05/2021 18:04

Felicity is a much nicer and classier name than Violet.

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 12/05/2021 17:49

Violet Flowers
Such a beautiful name.

They are so completely different to me I’m surprised it’s between them. Felicity is such a meh name and agree it sounds really harsh and vinegary. If you know what I mean??!

DollyParton2 · 12/05/2021 17:18

Violet by such a long way!

It’s only about 60 in name charts I hardly know any?
I work with 3 Felicity’s- all mid/ late 30s. It’s a boring/standard name IMO- similar to names popular then like Claire, Sarah or Hannah... ok but just boring, sorry.

sundowners · 12/05/2021 17:15

No contest at all....Violet by a million miles!

Felicity is harsh and brash sounding and very 1980's.

notveryrelaxed · 12/05/2021 07:59

Thanks! We’re leaning towards Felicity too, I don’t like flick but don’t mind fliss or lissy and I think my 2 year old would be more likely to use those! I still like Violet a lot but the popularity is putting me off.

It’ll probably be a boy now! 😂

Felicity for me. Violet is too like violent for my liking.

SemperIdem · 12/05/2021 00:59

Felicity. I don’t like Violet in the slightest.

WestminsterAbi · 11/05/2021 08:45

50/50 silently leaning towards Fel because Vi is so popular

Kitkat151 · 11/05/2021 08:24
