Misery
Sorrow
... both popular Victorian names. Don’t suppose you really want that dark, though 🤪
can you imagine looking at your newborn baby and calling it Misery or Sorrow!! “

They were usually little ones whose mother had died in childbirth or they were born out of wedlock (so that the mother would feel shame every time they looked at them).

JemimaJoy · 08/05/2021 14:38

Artemis and Lorelai and Zephyr are very gothy.

LunaNorth · 08/05/2021 14:38

I bloody can. My firstborn didn’t stop crying for the first six months.

Here you go:

@mam0918

'Come on, though. If Mum is a Goth, there's no way that Baby Northernlights will be a Goth in her teens, She's more likely to rebel by becoming a cheerleader'

Not true, in my teens I raided my parents wardrobe and music collection because they where pretty cool themselves (not goth but they had been biker/rockers although they dressed pretty normal in levis/wranglers and plaid by my teens they never hid their past styles from me) and I had no need to 'rebel' or 'shock' them.

It was nice to have really supportive parents who spent a fortune on clothes to help me hone my style without push back and besides my teenage angst was fed nicely by all the non family members who cluched their pearls when they saw me.

Same! My mum had some gorgeous, darker outfits and what have you, I'd raid her wardrobes and rifle through dads extensive record collection (I grew up on a steady diet of Adam Ant, the cure, the damned and Bowie all of which I pinched from him Grin) when I was a little older they would take me to pick outfits at the 'goth shop' (cobwebs in Stockport) for birthdays and Christmas. They even let me decorate my room a gorgeous dark purple. I never felt like I was 'rebelling' I was nurtured and encouraged to find my own path. The only thing they didn't like was the black hair dye but that was only because of the mess I made of the bathroom doing it.
daisyjgrey · 08/05/2021 14:29

@medebourne

Why on earth would anyone want to choose a 'sinister' name for their baby?! Are you a sinister person? Do you hang out with sinister people? Do you want your child to hang out with sinister people?

Being gothy when you're a suburban teenager and want to shock your neighbours and parents is quite interesting and 'edgy' I suppose, but why put that on your baby?

You might think it's naughty and rebellious to do graveyard chic, but is that seriously what you want for your child?

Oh give over.
youngandbroken · 08/05/2021 14:28

My youngest's name has been mentioned multiple times Grin I do love these names (and don't worry she is a very happy little girl so her name hasn't doomed her to a life of gloomy moodiness).
I love these names:
Iris
Rayna
Rowena
Raven
Lilith
Yvaine
Wren
Sorrell (although this one does sound a lot like sorrow which might put some people off)
