Initials H.R.G

It's become a thing in my family that the first born child is given the initials H.R.G (2 middle names). My great-grandad and Grandad have the same 3 names. My mum was given the same initials as was my brother. My brother can't have children so if I have children I'd like to continue to tradition and use the same initials. My mum goes by her first middle name "Ruth" and my brother goes by a shortening of his first middle "Richie"

If you were forced to name your child using those initials, but they can go by any of the names or shortening of any, what would you name your child? Boys and girls.

To be honest I'd break tradition. It's one thing having a family middle name but having the same initials seems a bit silly/pointless, I mean how often do we use initials these days anyway? If you don't break tradition it's almost certain that someone down the line will so might as well pick names you like!

I'd struggle more with the "H" names - there aren't that many I really like.

TheRedFox · 04/05/2021 15:26

This seems very restrictive to limit your choice of names to ones that only start with one of 3 letters....

I'd put together a list of your favourite names and then see whether it works or not but don't force it.

I wouldn’t do it personally (my DD has 2 middle names as we added one in memory of a relative we lost just before she was born - it was done in the emotion of the moment and in a way I’m glad but it also looks a bit much written down, I’m not sure how she’ll feel about having the extra name and there’s something awkward about it all I slightly regret) but if it was the key to saving the world or something I’d go with

Hugo Rowan George

and

Helen Rebecca Grace
(Maybe Hope Rebecca Grace)

And they’d be known as the first name unless they chose otherwise when older.
