Can’t decide on girls names

OH and I have a short list but don’t love each other’s top choices.
Mine is Iris but he isn’t keen
His is Holly which I think is nice but a bit meh.

Others:
We both like Eve but think it’s probably too common
Sofia
Zoe

Middle name will either be Ruby or Florence.

Love but can’t use as they’re cousin’s names: Thea, Juliette, Imogen

Any help or tips gratefully received!

Eva.

Gorgeous name.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/05/2021 23:59

Your cousin is Thea - could you have Theadora & then use Thea at home & Theadora at family gatherings?

dottiedaisee · 03/05/2021 23:57

Annie is a pretty, timeless name .X

dottiedaisee · 03/05/2021 23:56

@mouldygrapes

Holly Florence is growing on me. I love Iris Ruby as well though.

@dottiedaisee love Olive but it’s the name of my close friend’s dog!

Aah that’s a shame...my granddaughter is called Olive and we have yet to hear anything negative about her name . good luck ...am sure you will find the right name very soon 💐

Eve is gorgeous imo - classic, elegant but kind of cool sounding (it's a palindrome and often used in sci/fi and fantasy films/books since it means "life"). It's actually never been very popular - historically it's never made it higher than no. 50 and that was twenty years ago. But Eve may feel more well used as similar style names (Ava, Evie, Evelyn) are very popular.

Sofia is lovely but is very popular along with Sophia and Sophie. Iris is beautiful too but again is fairly trendy at the moment - it's more subject to fashion whims than Eve (Holly and Zoe aren't my taste, sorry).

Other suggestions based on your list - Maeve, Tess, Lara, Thalia, Gaia, Cora, Anna, Nina, Celia, Xanthe, Viola, Bryony, Beatrice, Julia, Ianthe, Cassia, Claudia, Lydia.

Unless you have a cultural attachment to the spelling of Sofia I would spell it Sophia!

Sophia Florence or holly Florence are both lovely!

What about esme? Or molly?

Ruby Juliette sounds really nice too

I like the name Iris too. It just sounds lovely and classical.

mouldygrapes · 03/05/2021 23:49

@wanderedlonelyasacloud I love Florence but OH won’t have it as a first name as he doesn’t like nn Flo.
Ivy is popular around here, as is Willow

Olive is a really lovely name ..pretty and not too common..yet!

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 03/05/2021 23:46

Eve is lovely! I like Holly and Iris too.

Ivy?
Rowan
Willow

I personally love Florence and would use that as a first name

bonfireheart · 03/05/2021 23:45

Agree with PP, Holly Florence sounds lovely

mouldygrapes · 03/05/2021 23:43

@mrwalkensir was just reading the thread on “names you’re sick of hearing” and so many people put Eve/Evie/Ava on their lists!

@Thedogscollar Fleur is lovely but also a cousin! Forgot about her 🙈

I think the name Fluer is lovely.

mrwalkensir · 03/05/2021 23:38

The most beautiful sound I heard was a Jamaican gentleman calling for "Iris" (presumably his wife). Pure Eve (rather than Evie) isn't common. Zoe and Juliette both lovely

EvilOnion · 03/05/2021 23:36

Holly Florence is a lovely name :)
