What names do you like but you have only ever met one of before?

My sister is pregnant for the first time at 43 and wants an unusual but real name and wants some inspiration.

I named my own after only once ever hearing someone called the name.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

On the Shakespearean theme we also had a Perdita, a Cordelia, a Nerissa, and several Jessicas, Helenas and Juliets. No Portias, Mirandas or Desdemonas that I can remember though grin

No Goneril? 😂

@Gemma2019 Every obstetrician I know has a mate who apparently looked after La-a's mother in labour 🙄

I've only ever met one:
Christophine (f)
Blossom (f)
Hiram (m)
Gentle (f)
Caspian (m)
Pandora (f)
Zadie (f)
Velynne (f)
Oren (m)
Avie (f)

All my life I wanted to name my child Arlo, having only ever heard it on the 70s folk singer, but when I turned up for my sweep and told the midwife it was a boy she said "ooh we've had three boys born here already today - and they've all been called Arlo!" (DS ended up with a very pedestrian name after that 😆)

Only ever met one:

Jera (f)
Madoc (m)

I also have lots of friends from Europe who live in the UK so some of the names they've chosen are 'normal' for their home countries are unusual here.

Unescorted · 04/05/2021 12:00

I know a Skye - she complains that she hears people shouting her in the park only to realise they are calling their dog.

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2021 11:58

@Hoppinggreen

SuNi (pronounced soo nee) Parents were called Sue and Neil. Bit ridiculous but it’s actually not a terrible name and amused everyone for an evening when we imagined what our names would have been had our parents used the same method to name us Valtone anyone?
I know a Kayleigh named by the same method, but at least she chanced upon an actual name.
