The names Emily and Abby bore me to tears. They may not be top 10 anymore (Abigail is 80 something) but I just find them so boring I can't hear that they are pretty. The other top 10 names are there for a reason. For me, they are all objectively pretty and easy to pronounce and spell.
Boys names, Jack and Charlie are so so boring. Nice but boring.
There is a certain excitement in hearing what a close friend or relative has chosen for their baby and I almost feel let down if it's one of the above Grin

I do love the name Arlo but it's by far the most common name chosen for boys by people I know. I know 3 parents with boys called Arlo and there's another one at school.

riotlady · 03/05/2021 10:23

Amelia/Emilia/Amelie for sure

My 12 year old sister is one of 4 in her class and my 3 year old knows several too, it’s been popular for ages

For girls’ names in particular it’s more specific sounds I get tired of hearing, rather than the names themselves - eg all the Avas, Evas, Evies, Ivys etc just merge together after a while. For boys it’s mainly the currently trendy Biblical and ‘cheeky chappy’ -ie endings that are everywhere. Also -o endings seem very trendy - having exhausted Arlo, Leo and Theo round here people seem to be moving on to Jago and Otto (I met two local Ottos in one day the other week).

Somersetlady · 03/05/2021 09:52

Nope. Only feel sorry for kids given whacky or alternative names who will be teased throughout their school life.

And Michael Hunt but I am pretty Sure Mike’s parents did not have any awareness about what they were doing to the poor lad.

megletthesecond · 03/05/2021 09:52
