We had an Isla whose mum obv iously anticipated there being several as her backpack is personalised as Isla W. She's our only Isla in the entire nursery!

LTsMum1 · 08/05/2021 13:11

Alfie Olivia Isla

What a horrible thread

KateF · 08/05/2021 13:05

I work in a baby room. We're seeing a lot of Alfie, Archie, Ivy and Poppy in our new starters (so born over the last year). These have replaced the wave of Arlo, Ollie, Olivia and Isabel who are now toddlers.

KineticSand · 08/05/2021 12:37

Arthur Arlo Alfie Archie

Evie/ Evelyn variants

RuthW · 08/05/2021 12:36

@AliceMcK

Anything on the top 20 list over the last 10 years. I’m not a fan of fashionable names. I think when naming children the name should have meaning rather than taken from a fashion list,
Exactly. That's why I chose one not in the top 100. 24 years later it's about number 12!
RuthW · 08/05/2021 12:28

Oh, and Isla and Charlie

RuthW · 08/05/2021 12:27

Ava, Eva, Evie, Ellie

Annabelle, Annabella, Arabella, Isobel, Isabelle, Isabella

Really just the names I hear a lot at playgroup and nursery so

Amelia, Olivia, Isabelle, Isabella, Sofia, Isla, Evie, Archie, Ella, Harry, Alfie, Chloe, Charlie etc. Mostly 2 syllables and many ending in Eeeeee or aaaaa

PatrickBatemann · 08/05/2021 12:14

All the E's: Evelyn, Ella, Elle. So boring.

I guess the reason they are so popular is because they are nice names.

Unfortunately if many parents choose the same few 'nice' names they become overused and dull.

Ah! I know a young Alan! I think it’s a great name!

IggyAce · 08/05/2021 09:34

I work in a school (ks2) I have multiples in my bubble of:
Jake
Charlie
Oliver
Logan
Then the similar ending girls names which get tiresome: Olivia, Amelia, Mia, Eva, Ava, Millie, Maisie, Evie.
Hearing names like David, Alan, Rose and Lucy is a breath of fresh air, I do admit to doing a double take when I heard Alan.

It must be where you are from though because some of the ones mentioned surprised me as I don't know any or many at all with those names, Finley for example, I think I know one. And that's a friend of a friends child, certainly doesn't seem over used round here. Ottilie? Never heard it.

Mine early teen and so many of their friends have these names. Funny people pick the same few names there are so many names ordinary not wacky.

Also thinking about it so many families I know seem to have a boy called Ben

Heatingsystemwoes · 08/05/2021 07:33

Arlo definitely! It’s the new ‘Tyler’.
