Hello Smile

I'm expecting DC1 currently and don't yet know the sex. DH and I can't put our finger on any stand out names just yet and would love some help!

Baby's surname will be Rose, so no floral girl names, or anything that could sound like a scented candle Grin and for boys we just would like something that flows well and doesn't sound too "soft" with the surname.

All help very welcome! Smile

I used to work with a Melanie Rose which I alway though sounded like a really pretty name. It's a bit of an 80s name though but it may be due a comeback! She actually spelled it Melany now I think about it.

Hello fellow Rose @diamondsandrose I haven't met any non-related ones in real life!

We do like Thomas but it's one of DH's best friend's names and we couldn't take the eternal "you named him after me" jokes Grin

I also like Isaac but DH vetoed it Sad you just know we're having a boy since there's lots of good options for girls and we're struggling on boys, don't you Grin

@ScarletZebra that is amazing!

I had an ancestor named True Rose 🌹

diamondsandrose · 03/05/2021 19:15

Real life Rose here again! Love all your girl names.

Not sure on Remy sorry 😬!!
Penny Rose was our dogs name!

Favourites are Evelyn and Sylvia I think.

I agree with a pp re boys names I think you need to go quite masculine / traditional to balance out the "flower" ie my brother is Andrew and I like that , nephew Liam goes well. Thomas/Tom? I like your suggestion of Arthur too.

Happenchance · 03/05/2021 11:04

I only like Sylvie and Sebastian.

Penny Rose sounds like a bargain Grin

Have you considered Evangeline instead of Emmeline?

UpAt5amAgain · 03/05/2021 09:07

Arthur is ok but I'm not keen on first names ending in the same letter that the surname begins with, as it runs together. We're choosing names and I've ruled out any that end in the letter our surname begins with for that reason. Eg Arthur Rose is Arthur Ose when I say it!

Remy I really don't like, it's pretty down-market where I live.

Sebastian I love.

turnthepage · 03/05/2021 09:05

@theory101 always loved Theodore but one of my best friend's new born is Theodore/Theo so that's out Sad

Annabelle Rose

Arthur Rose
Remy Rose (I know it might be hard if people can't pronounce their Rs but I still love it Blush)
Albert/Albie Rose
Sebastian Rose
Curveball from DH - Lenny Rose

I like Alfred too but there's so many Alfies around it puts me off.

Rowan/Robin/Remy tricky for anyone who can't pronounce their 'r's:

Wowan Wose
Wobin Wose
Wemy Wose

Grin

Albert Rose - Easy to move the mouth from the 't' in Albert to 'Rose'.

Girls’ names you don’t have to worry too much. I’d got for a very masculine name for a boy to offset the feminine surname as others have said.
