Names to go with this surname?

Hello Smile

I'm expecting DC1 currently and don't yet know the sex. DH and I can't put our finger on any stand out names just yet and would love some help!

Baby's surname will be Rose, so no floral girl names, or anything that could sound like a scented candle Grin and for boys we just would like something that flows well and doesn't sound too "soft" with the surname.

All help very welcome! Smile

“is” = “now” 😬

NowRightHere · 13/05/2021 23:43

I agree with not using an R first name in case they can’t pronounce their Rs. I love the name Rory but didnt use it for that reason and very glad is because DS can’t pronounce his Rs!

Redsquirrel5 · 13/05/2021 20:56

Mine are all grown up but no sign of grandchildren. My youngest sister has just been made a granny. Not many of either about. I have met one other Stella and two called Celia.

BasiliskStare · 12/05/2021 11:20

@Redsquirrel5 Brilliant name If I had had a girl it would have been toss up between Stella and Celia - but then that puts me firmly in the parents of parents camp Grin So I probably have little to contribute here - ha ha

Redsquirrel5 · 12/05/2021 09:55

Basil
😃 my sister is Celia 😄

Theoldwoman · 12/05/2021 00:34

Benjamin Rose
Jacob Rose

Juliet Rose
Amelia Rose
Charlotte Rose

BasiliskStare · 12/05/2021 00:33

Oh for a girl @Redsquirrel5- I think Stella is fantastic - it would be my choice for a girl - or indeed 2nd place would go Celia. Love Stella and John - but am rather over having babies so other's choice

Miles ?

Redsquirrel5 · 11/05/2021 23:49

I have a relation called Stella Rose. I have always liked the sound of it and it flows well.

Boy- Marcus Rose

BasiliskStare · 11/05/2021 23:36

If you like O at the end names - how about Sholto ? or more mainstream Hugo ? or a friend of mine's grandson is called Arlo - but I think that one is getting popular but nice ? My best friend's nephew is called Luca - cute as a button.

I am only offering no "t" at the end Grin

I am sensing you do not like "boring" names so not the likes of Adam , Thomas , Henry etc,

turnthepage · 11/05/2021 22:58

I don't know why but I'm just not keen on Charlie. I think it makes me think of Prince Charles 😂 John is dull to me (sorry no offence to anyone, I always feel bad for not liking names!!).

@BasiliskStare hahaha that bloody bus driver Grin I'd never heard of him either!

Someone mentioned Elliott which I do really like, but in our area most people don't pronounce their Ts properly and it'd end up "Ell-ee-uh" sort of sound. I like Ellis too but DH doesn't Sad

Grin @turnthepage - I just asked my son (24) and I said what would the name Otto say to you and he said - Oh the bus driver chap on the Simpsons - honestly honestly that would not have occurred to me in a hundred years, & I am not sure it matters. I said to my SIL before DS was born we were thinking of Guy - fairly classic you would have thought - she immediately said "Guy the Gorilla" - not sure why but it put me off but it did

John ? - Johnny Rose I think would sound like a rather dashing hero - like Charlie Rose.

Joolsin · 11/05/2021 22:39

I don't think Arthur works, OP, because the two Rs sort of run into each other - like Arthur Ose. I really like Charlie.

turnthepage · 11/05/2021 22:27

No I agree on Orson @BasiliskStare, I'm sure it's the name of a band too 😂

DH has now put me off Otto a bit saying it's the name of the bus driver on The Simpsons who "likes to get blotto" 😑😂

OP posts:
BasiliskStare · 11/05/2021 22:01

Charles - Charlie Rose sounds rather dashing. ? I rather like Otto though to be honest . Orson just my opinion I do not like , but would not be my son.

Twinkie01 · 11/05/2021 21:55

Elliott for a boy or Benjamin or Maximilian.

Penelope or Harriet for a girl.

turnthepage · 11/05/2021 21:46

Oh another couple that DH likes - Otto and Orson. I quite like Otto but not Orson 🤔

Thank you so much everyone Smile love Maeve but DH doesn't like it 👎🏻

I feel like we have a huge list for girls now but boys we're still debating!

I like Alexander but not sure if it's "the one". Other names we've discussed this week are:

Reuben (why do we seem so drawn to R names?!)
Abel
Perry
Laurie
DH threw in Lonnie which I feel like doesn't seem like a real name to me?!

Maybe we'll be struck with inspiration in the hospital 😂
