Hello, I have a son and daughter already named Ethan and Penelope and was wondering which girl name goes best with them as a little sister. We are deciding between Juliette and Annabelle. Thanks

I like the flow of Penelope and Annabel more than Penelope and Juliette.

Amdone123 · 02/05/2021 05:00

Both beautiful. I prefer Annabel, just because it's a classic. But Juliet is lovely ( or Juliette. Both pronounced the same to me ??!!)

GreyhoundG1rl · 02/05/2021 04:12

Juliet - JOOL-iet,
Juliette - Julie-ETTE
I've never heard them be distinguished in this way. They're both pronounced as per the second one.

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 02/05/2021 04:08

Juliette is so lovely. Some people are advising Juliet over Juliette but be aware that these names aren't always pronounced in the same way.

Juliet - JOOL-iet,
Juliette - Julie-ETTE

I hope that makes sense!

Annabelle I think suits a porcelain doll but isn't a patch on Juliette.

Juliet is gorgeous (spelt like this - as unless you live in a French speaking country Juliette will likely be constantly misspelt). Annabel/Annabelle is okay, but there are a lot of similar names popular at the moment (Anna, Bella, Isabelle, Arabella etc) which means it blends into others a bit.

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2021 22:09

With those spellings I'd go for Juliette, though I prefer the spelling and slightly different pronunciation of Juliet.

I like Annabel but the Annabelle spelling is too fussy for me.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 01/05/2021 22:07

I like Juliette best but prefer it spelt Juliet

I dont know why but ive always really disliked the name Annabelle

Chunkymenrock · 01/05/2021 22:05

Names don't have to 'go'. My favourite would be Juliette.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 01/05/2021 22:05

How about Julietta? Think I prefer that and Ettie is a lovely abbreviation.....

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 01/05/2021 22:03

Annabelle for sure, as long as you are happy with Anna/Annie/Belle abbreviations.

Just look at how it all ended for Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, that alone puts me off the name!

BunnyRuddington · 01/05/2021 21:59

DD was very nearly Juliet, can't remember why we didn't go with it in the end. Still love that name.

I do like Annabel but I also know quite a few.

CaffiSaliMali · 01/05/2021 21:55

Julliette for me, although I prefer Juliet. Annabel and Annabelle are everywhere at the moment, I know a baby Annabel and a baby Annabelle.

BrilliantBetty · 01/05/2021 21:05

Gone off Annabelle as it's v v popular/ common. Not necessarily a bad thing but Juliet feels a bit more unusual and memorable.

Doesn't have to be shortened to Julie, there are lots of other options inc. Jules, Ettie (or kept as Juliet)

KirstenBlest · 01/05/2021 20:59

I'd spell them Annabel and Juliet. Both fine, but I'm not keen on the frillier spellings.
I prefer Juliet but dislike Jules, so I'd pick Annabel.

lottiegarbanzo · 01/05/2021 20:50

I'll throw in that to my ear, Penelope is of an era (1950s) with Diana and Susannah, possibly Annabelle, whereas Juliet is more classic. But Ethan sounds more last ten years, so matching probably isn't what you're going for.

I do think Annabelle sounds lovely whenever I hear it. It's a very 'complete' name, that doesn't invite shortening, despite being so easily shortened.

Aurorie11 · 01/05/2021 20:44

Juliet, abbreviated to Jet or Ettie

lottiegarbanzo · 01/05/2021 20:41

I can't imagine Juliet being shortened to Julie. They're very different names. Jules or Ju, yes.

seadreams · 01/05/2021 20:01

My sister is Juliet and I think its a lovely name however its ALWAYS misspelt. The juliet/juliette thing is very annoying and people even spell it Juliete sometimes. Annabelle would also have this issue but probably less so.

MooseMoose · 01/05/2021 19:45

Annabel and Juliet are much better spellings - less frilly. Both nice, I'd probably go for Juliet, though I hate Julie as a nn. I know an Annabel who is lovely. Occasionally shortened to Bel.

SpeedRunParent · 01/05/2021 19:15

Annabel with any spelling is ever so commonplace now. I know four under 13. Juliette is unusual and can be shortened to Jools, which is cool.

TurquoiseDress · 01/05/2021 18:49

I prefer Juliette

Sexnotgender · 01/05/2021 18:36

Love Juliette though I’d probably spell it Juliet.

I very nearly called my new baby daughter Julia. It was in my final 3. Really love it.

KFleming · 01/05/2021 18:35

Annabelle, with that spelling.

But if you went for Juliette, I’d spell it Juliet.

partyatthepalace · 01/05/2021 18:33

I prefer Juliet and think it goes better with your names. I like Annabel too though.

But I would loose the French spellings, they are really fussy.

MimiSunshine · 01/05/2021 18:33

I have a Penelope and my favourite name for another girl was Juliette (we also briefly considered Ethan for a boy). But DP changed his mind as he really hated the idea of it being shortened to Julie.

We did consider Annabel too (preferred this spelling though) at one point so personally I do t think you can go wrong either way.
