Thanksgiving? It is too much?

Hiya, I’ve name changed here as I’m giving my child’s name so just using this username for this thread.
I’m due baby girl in a few days, (Dd3) and my DH and I are trying to pick a name.

We are really looking for a virtue name - we have Dd1 who is Honour, and we also had dd2 who sadly was born sleeping, due to lots of complications in pregnancy, who we also gave a virtue name.

We are looking for a name that marks the joy of having another girl after our loss and for what has been thankfully a good pregnancy.

We can’t use Joy though as a baby in our very close friendship circle has just been name Joy. Also can’t use Grace for a similar reason.

We are thinking ‘Thanksgiving’, as this conveys thankfulness and a sense of giving back for our blessing. DH loves it and wants it to be a done deal but I am thinking - it’s quite a mouthful and a big name to give to a little girl, what if it’s too much? And what would we shorten Thanksgiving to?

Can I have your thoughts on Thanksgiving, or if you think it’s too much, do you have any other suggestions?

We are Christians if that gives any context.

I love virtue names.
I would have used Patience if I'd had a girl.

I know a Moreblessings and while unusual, suits her so well.
Faith is also lovely.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/05/2021 21:02

As a PP said, I think the fact that it’s a holiday in the US makes it work less well than other virtue names.

Charis, Comfort, Blessing and Mercy spring to mind thinking of people I know.

Precious and Cherish on this thread are also lovely.

BikeRunSki · 01/05/2021 21:00

Comfort ?

SpiderinaWingMirror · 01/05/2021 20:56

I had an African student named Happiness, shortened to Happi.
It suited her, lovely girl.

JustMeAndWheatley · 01/05/2021 20:55

I wouldn’t. I think it will make her life a bit of a nightmare at school and in life beyond.

Blessing
Hope
Faith

would be much better choices. If you’re set on Thanksgiving maybe use it as a middle name.

BikeRunSki · 01/05/2021 20:52

I’m so sorry for your loss of DD2. Have you thought of Beata (meaning “blessed” in several languages) or
Benita (meaning “blessed” in Spanish).

Harmony?

bumhug · 01/05/2021 20:48

Eliana is pretty and means My God has answered me.

Lelophants · 01/05/2021 20:43

'Thankful' if you had to.

But the other options on here are nicer I think.

BunnyRuddington · 01/05/2021 20:42

Precious Cherish Serenity

Oh had forgotten about Precious. I know one and she is absolutely lovely. Really like Cherish as well and I think it would suit your other DD's names Smile

bluebluezoo · 01/05/2021 20:42

No sorry. It'd be akin to calling her Christmas

Which also isn’t unheard of, particularly in some cultures.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/05/2021 20:41

No sorry. It'd be akin to calling her Christmas.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Flowers
Do you like.
Rainbow
Blessing
Precious
Abigail. (Means her fathers joy)
Beauty
Angel

mooloop · 01/05/2021 20:33

Love the suggestion of Blessing! Faith and Mercy are lovely too.

Orphlids · 01/05/2021 20:28

OP, sorry your post has attracted a few insensitive people. And my condolences for the loss of your second DD. I rather like Thanksgiving! I admit the actual sound of it isn’t very pretty, but then I don’t think names need to be pretty. The sentiment behind the name is lovely.

Having said that, I have to admit I’m not sure I’d want to be named Thanksgiving, even though I am quite a confident and outgoing person. But a possible nickname could be Gigi, which I would love to be named! Best of luck with choosing, and wishing you all the very best for the arrival of your new baby.

arcof · 01/05/2021 20:19

Im sorry for your loss OP and for some of the replies you've received, including those which are a little culturally insensitive and insensitive to your circumstances.

I genuinely think the issue with this name is that it's also the name of a very well-known US holiday, and that's really the problem with it. There are many other virtue names which are just as lovely but don't have that connection.

But whatever you choose, wishing you all the best for the healthy arrival of your little one.

NoNameNoOne · 01/05/2021 20:03

Gia – Italian, meaning "a gracious gift."
Genivieve - French, "God's Blessing"

WaltzingBetty · 01/05/2021 19:51

Felicity is lovely

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 01/05/2021 19:48

Also Blythe.

Beautiful name. Classic and so underused.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 01/05/2021 19:45

Constance.
Verity.
Faith

Really classic beautiful names.

Also in keeping with your theme:

Precious
Cherish
Serenity.

But not Thanksgiving. It cannot be shortened to anything reasonable and is so long if never shortened. The reasons behind it as a choice are understandable. And heartbreaking. But your third daughter’s name should not be defined by your previous loss. That is far too big a burden for her to bear. Most children ask about the origin of their name at some point. You need a story for her that is not so loaded. I say this kindly; you sound like lovely people. All good wishes.

Stophammertime123 · 01/05/2021 19:05

Sorry for your loss OP Flowers

I would think Hope is a good choice. I am Christian too and it's what our faith is about

Also, Faith would be a other good choice!

wellingtonsandwaffles · 01/05/2021 19:01

I like Faith, also a friend has Trinity and Angelica nn Angel

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/05/2021 18:53

I know a girl named Precious, which I think is lovely

Charity
Faith

RainingZen · 01/05/2021 18:49

Joanna and Jonathan mean gift from God, and are traditionally thankful names.

sapnupuas · 01/05/2021 18:47

Thanksgiving is the worst name idea I've ever heard.

Harmony.

Honour, Hope, and Harmony.

Skyliner001 · 01/05/2021 18:45

😂No.

wizbit93 · 01/05/2021 18:44

I know someone who called their daughter Channah, I think that is a virtue name?
