Celina?

Also what do you think of the spellings
Selina
Selena

I like the moon & heavenly meanings equally. I slightly prefer Celina because I think it’s prettier. Thoughts?

@Springbankholiday , Celine is most likely related to the moon (the same as Greek Selene - as much as names can be said to have a "meaning"), rather than Latin Caelum (sky/heaven) as Celia and Celeste are.

But Ancient Greek/Ancient Roman/Latin names were often influenced by each other - so if the majority of baby name websites/books say that Celina "means" heavenly, then that is what your DD will accept (so I don't think it really matters - it's all sky related!).

What does Celine mean in Latin and is Celina related to this name? I’m really confused because I’ve seen some baby name websites mention that Celina is linked to the word Caelum in Latin, but I don’t know how accurate that is?

I think its lovely and written down, Celina looks far nicer than Selena .

As far as I know - Celia means heavenly (from the Latin Caelum). Celina is an uncommon variation of Selene (the Greek Goddess of the Moon) via the French version Celine (so no heavenly meaning as such for Celina/Selina/Selena).

I love it spelt Celina, because it's closer to the Latin for heaven (caelum) from which it derives.
But isn’t that pronounced with a K sound? I’m no expert, though.

Selena is gorgeous - and is both the most popular spelling and closet to the original name (Selene). Selina is a bit more dated and Celina looks invented imo (a smoosh of French Celine and Latin Celia).

I was probably thinking of Toyota Celica!

It was more the impression though. It looks to me like the wrong spelling and looks more like the kind of almost-a-name word usually given to cars!

Vauxhall Celina. Just sounds like that to me.

It's not awful OP. But if I heard this I would automatically assume it was spelled Selina.

She will be forever correcting people’s spelling of her name as most will go straight to the s first letter.

However, it is easy to pronounce which is good. It is a nice name, does well in all situations from cute baby up to boardroom.

I love Cassie, either as a diminutive of Cassandra or as a stand a lone.

Not Celina, sounds like a car! And wrong. And as if you meant Celia.

I get what you mean about the letter though. How about Celia/Clelia/Cecilia?

I think Selina is the most traditional spelling in English, but Celina is fine.

Thanks everyone! Really love Celina over Selena though although I understand where you’re all coming from. Selena just looks like too many e’s! And I like prefer C names over S names, cannot explain why, I have no idea! Hmm Sometimes Celina does look a bit cold though if that makes sense. If this sounds ridiculous, then maybe my hormones are all over the place! Haha.
