@GintyMcGinty the Eila spelling is a family honour thing, so tbh the name doesn’t hold as much appeal spelled Isla. However, there would be constant corrections as Isla would be assumed, so maybe best to avoid as a first altogether.

Oh and I went with the middle name Violet so her initials are E.V.
My other favourite name was Evie but I didn't like it for an adult but her initials are this name ! (I look back and think how much I over thought things due to pregnancy hormones Hmm)

mathanxiety · 30/04/2021 16:12

..

MumofSpud · 30/04/2021 16:10

Eve Love!
Esme I have one of these!
Eliza Ok
Tilda No
Rowena No
Cordelia Ok
Orpah would assume it is Oprah spelt wrong!!
Iona Love (was on my list!
Eila No
Isla love (was on my list)
but it is v v popular
Imogen No
Saiorse ok if you have Irish roots

Considering you have 3 names that were on my list and I used 1 of them, what about;
Vivienne

GintyMcGinty · 30/04/2021 16:08

Eve
Eliza
Iona
Isla
Imogen

These are all nice. I don't like the rest. If you go with Isla please spell it this way.

LegoPoliceman · 30/04/2021 15:59

I like Eve and Eliza best out of your list.

Incidentally, according to Oprah's Wikipedia page, the name on her birth certificate was Orpah but people frequently mispronounced it Oprah.

Edenember · 30/04/2021 15:56

@Curlysusie Thankyou. Eve has been the longest standing name on my list, so I’ll have to use it somewhere, even as a middle.

Love Eve, Esme second x

GiveIrelandBackToTheIrish · 30/04/2021 15:50
@MercyBodle thanks for taking the time to do that! I think Rowena is coming out on top for me too 😊
Rowena is very pretty and different

Edenember · 30/04/2021 15:49

@Awwlookatmybabyspider thanks for your answer. Yes mine would be Esmie, so I think Eliza is the clear winner for you.

Eve. Good strong name. I appreciate its beauty and elegance but I don't like the sound
Esme. If you're pronouncing it Ez-may yes. If it's Ez-Mee no. It's strange how just one sound or one letter can make a huge difference to a name.
Eliza. I love this, can't fault it.
So as not to be too negative ill just say I'm not keen on the others at all. With the exception of Saoirse which is passable.

MercyBodle · 30/04/2021 15:09

I love (in your order):
Eliza
Tilda
Rowena
Imogen
Saoirse

I like:
Eve
Cordelia
Iona

Neutral:
Esme
Eila/Isla

Dislike
Orpah

My favourite 2 are Rowena and Imogen.

Edenember · 30/04/2021 14:29

@MerryMarigold fair enough 🤣

OP posts:
Edenember · 30/04/2021 14:29

@Anoisagusaris more likely I think.

MerryMarigold · 30/04/2021 14:27

Orpah is awful, with Cordelia close behind!

Iona is lovely. Like Eve too.

Anoisagusaris · 30/04/2021 14:24

I would have thought Eliza would be shortened to Liza rather than Ellie?

Edenember · 30/04/2021 14:05

@Amdone123 I know, I adore it. I’ve also just realised that Ingrid’s not on there either, which I love.

OP posts:
Edenember · 30/04/2021 14:01

@Anoisagusaris thanks. I love Eliza, I think it’s pretty but strong, but it would spoil it for me if it ever got shortened to Ellie, so that’s something to consider. No offence to any Ellie’s or mums of Ellie’s.

Amdone123 · 30/04/2021 13:59

@Edenember, I love Isolde. Also Ishmal I think I heard the other day.

ILoveShula · 30/04/2021 13:58

@Anoisagusaris, short for 'suddenly popular because of the Hollywood actor Soirse Ronan, who was recently in Little Women'.
Glad to have amused you.

Anoisagusaris · 30/04/2021 13:55

I love Eliza and Esme.

Saoirse wouldn’t be my favourite Irish name but I don’t dislike it.

Anoisagusaris · 30/04/2021 13:54

‘Too Little Women’ - 🤣🤣🤣🤣 What an odd comment.

Edenember · 30/04/2021 13:50

Thanks all! Spousal veto has left me with a fairly safe and inoffensive list. My taste is generally more clunky, fusty, strong sounding heritage names, he’s defs whittled down to the prettiest ones. I love Isolde but that’s gone, may be able to shoehorn in as a middle.

ChelseaCat · 30/04/2021 13:45

Eve - classic but now overused
Esme - pretty
Eliza - nice
Tilda - reminds me of rice. Sounds a bit incomplete
Rowena - not keen but I can’t put my finger in the reason why
Cordelia - love
Orpah - awful sorry
Iona - pretty
Eila / Isla - quite like Isla
Imogen - like this
Saoirse - I wouldn’t, will be such a pain for spelling and pronunciation
